A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS850GL plea for help - bike won't pull past 5000 rpm

Yes, all the 82’s had ignitors, but earlier models had separate mechanical advancers. Later versions had the advance curve built into ignitor itself. In any event, advance would be complete by 4K for both types. When you’re going down this hill lightly loaded, what happens at 5k …..any sense of...

GS850GL plea for help - bike won't pull past 5000 rpm

I don’t like the consistency of not pulling past 5k…..can you find a safe long downhill and see what happens when it’s lightly loaded under full throttle? in my opinion, the main jet is doing most of the mixture delivery by 5k…..I’m assuming you got the rubber plugs over the pilot circuit. I...

81 Suzuki GS650G - oil pressure light flickering on hard stop - marginal pressure?

I hope this is just a loose wire…..grounding out at times my oil light goes out during cranking normally. No issues during turning ,braking, etc after a run, with bike on center stand, it takes a about ten minutes for 15-40 oil to reappear in sight glass …I keep it to full mark. there is an oil...

    Bike stalls after 5 minutes

”Ok so I started the bike again today and here is the sequence of events-“ The sequence is odd. Being able to turn off choke after ten seconds and hold idle is odd for a cold motor . To me this suggests that engine is getting a extra fuel dose from somewhere ….but this eventually dwindles and...

Yes, just get a new petcock and rule it out as a problem…. https://www.ebay.com/itm/201646389696?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=AH0MSk6DRbK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ARSR0K5ISZu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    Turn signal switch rebuild help

No fun repairing…..I’d probably resign myself to getting a somewhat similar switch off another Suzuki and rework connections to suit. The wiring diagram will tell you what does what…..Suzuki plug in connectors vary

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

Sorry, wrong 650 guy! In the carb forum, there was guy looking for air filter element cage who mentioned using 115 mains. I merged you two together to save brain space

1979 Suzuki GS850- Valve cover reinstall.

”I suggest a small 1/4" ratchet wrench, and skip the torque wrench. Way too many threads get stripped from guys trying to hit a number on a torque wrench.“ I put off buying one 15 years ago…figured I wouldn’t use it much. But at this price I just bought one off bezos…note the name! beats...

1979 Suzuki GS850- Valve cover reinstall.

So are you anticipating removing it ,or is it already off? valve clearances check? get a genuine Suzuki gasket….knockoffs can be iffy. you’ll spend more time carefully removing old stuck on gasket then installing new one. Goop not needed on cover gasket, just light spray . Maybe some goop on...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

Ok, you got fuel in bowls, spark at plugs. Activate “choke” ….make sure plungers fully extend. Use no throttle and crank….any life yet? No ? Then remove air filter element, place hand over opening to airbox to block…crank again..still nothing? remove a couple of spark plugs and look for fuel...

    Ignition Coils

With plug caps removed, over the secondary will yield about 13kohm….plug wire to plug wire. With installed caps of 10kohm each, cap to cap will yield cap to cap 33kohm. If you use the more common 5kohm plug cap, you’ll get about 23kohm cap to cap.
