A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS Valve Shim Club

I wish I had know about this a few days ago. I just ordered some from Z1 and paid a small ransom to have them shipped to Canada. I may be sending some your way soon.

    Jet size differences

The only way to really know how the jets/exhaust/air filters etc. are affecting the bike is to use the spark plug test. Buy 2 sets of plugs and a plug cleaner. Clean the plugs and run the bike on idle for 5 minutes. Remove the plugs and note the color. Golden brown on the center ceramic is...

    Tappet Clearances below spec

I finally sorted it out after a couple days of messing around. I ordered the parts from Z1. The shims were only 5.75 each. Ebay robbers wanted $11.75 plus shipping. I reused 3 shims. Thank you so much for the help.

    Tappet Clearances below spec

I am getting values between the available sizes including 2.83, 2.61, 2,77, 2.67, 2,62, Do I go up to the next size up and drop down 2? In other words 2.67 probably started as 2.70 - would two down be 2.60 or would I go down the next size and then two down from there to 2.55? Thanks. Doug

    Tappet Clearances below spec

Wow - thank you so much. I had tappet wear backwards, I thought that worn tappets would increase the gaps and require larger shims. You are saying that I may require smaller tappets? I need to understand this before I do anything else.

    Tappet Clearances below spec

I just checked the tappet clearances and 6 are less than .02 and I don't have a .01 feeler to check them. Could a mechanic be that incompetent or am I missing something. I checked and rechecked several times. The other two were at .04 and in spec.

    SH775 on a GS1000L - two locations - no luck

I am trying to mount the SH775 on my GS1000L. I tried locating in where the existing rectifier and regulator were but I couldn't get the side cover on. I then tried under the battery box but it is too thick. Has anyone found a suitable location on these bikes?

    SH775 Installation for Dummies

I noticed that there are some aftermarket models made by LP2 that look just like the originals. They have metal bottoms and the cast is the same. The other copies have a different cast and no metal bottom. Perhaps this aftermarket version is better and worth buying?

    SH775 Installation for Dummies

The SH775 will fit in the same location as the previous hardware if you turn the starter solenoid upside down and shim up on one of the bolts on the metal plate. Mine is loose in the photo but not bolted down. You will have to relocate the flasher. I haven't checked whether or not the side...

    SH775 Installation for Dummies

I wanted to add that will need a connector kit for the SH775. This is the best option because the connection is waterproof. The cheap way would be to connect directly onto the pins with like female connectors.

    SH775 Installation for Dummies

As for where to mount it - perhaps folks can help with that. I noticed that this one for sale on Ebay appears to have a heat sink mount. Perhaps they should be mounted flat on metal?
