    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    running lean

Your carbs Your carbs Hey, I don't know what size tubing you used to check "fuel level" in the carbs, but if it was a "homemade" job, it's possible the tubing was too small. With tubing that is too small (diameter), you could be seeing some capillary action - meaning the fuel in the tube...

Didn't know the GS's understood Dutch. 8O Must've looked kind of funny, you standing there, talking to the bike. Did you "fondle" it too? Did it talk back to you?....if yes, in what? English?...Japanese?.... :D :D :D :D :D :D

    Petcock rebuild

Re: Petcock rebuild Is the leak in the petcock itself, or from the larger oval shaped gasket between the petcock and the tank? You didn't say if you had disassembled the petcock itself.

Shortest Flathead Screwdriver in the World

I use these. Had to get a little bit of a longer bit than what came with the "finger screwdriver", but works fine for adjustments with the fuel pilot screws.

hmmmm.......... Might be time to get a "broken tap extractor-extraction tool" :D :D :D :D :D :D Sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble with that one threaded hole, Earl. Funny how a 5-minute job (tapping) can end up being a weekend long project. I've had a few of those...

    Refinishing flat surfaces.

Well Dink, in this part of "the rest of the world", if the concrete is still that wet, then we prefer to pour it instead. Makes the job a lot easier! :D :D :D (I know, I know....call me a bloody smart-a$$ :D )

    79 GS550 Fork Seal Stuck

I happen to have a claw-tail hammer that does the job like a charm. I put the one claw under the seal edge, protect the slider from getting scratched/marred by the hammer head with some thick cloth, and it pulls right out, every time. Of course, it needs to be the right hammer. I have...

    Cleaning the Engine Corrosion?

For larger surfaces, just use #000 steel wool to get off the oxidation, as well as the old (and most likely failing) clearcoat. When you have all the clearcoat off, polish the surface with a Dremmel, and either aluminum polish, or chrome polish on the polishing wheel. This will, of course be...

    Carb Problems With A GS650

You'd have to look at the manual to be certain, but if all is stock (airbox, exhaust, etc), I "think" you should be running 110 Main jets, and 42.5 Pilot jets. PS, that's assuming you're running 32mm BS carbs ('80 on up?)

    GS Sightings
