A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Yes it could be because of the year, I nearly bought the larger wheel on this site. Manufacturers also have different specs dependent on the country or region that the bike is sold, I don't know if that applies here. I've noticed Canadian bikes are frequently different from US or European versions.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Yeah there's a bit of vanity with tires bigger looking better but going bigger can definitely come with detrimental consequences to handling, factory engineers of the day made careful calculations based on the bikes geometry and tire technology. The efe design did allow for an optional...

So even with the 17" front the sidestand was still too short?

    GSX1150 Rebuild

I purchased a led set up from the US, it didn't cost much and it blends in perfectly, if you're interested I can search through my invoices to see where I found it.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Good to know thanks! So for two wheels about an 4kg/8lb weight savings in dry wt, as it's a rolling unsprung weight it'll improve suspension/handling. It was never easy to get it up on the centre stand but as my Hindle headers required removal the centre stand it's not a issue. I agree the...

    GSX1150 Rebuild

it must be better but with such things you often don't notice the difference until you've pushed the bike to the edge when it fails and you find yourself sliding down the road. The mechanic I use is a suspension expert with many years on the Superbike circuit with factory rides he told of me...

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Such a wonky site for photos which is why ended up posting my rebuild project on another site which is unfortunate because this is a great forum otherwise. When I first posted the photo it was there, later it was replaced with the link as you see it. When I click on the link the photo still...

    GSX1150 Rebuild

No centre stand I had my son hold it as vertical as possible, I eyeballed it as best I could using a level instead of my laser( son in law borrowed the laser:rolleyes:). double click for better size.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Yeah that alignment looks very suspect, I had a quick look at mine oem setup and it's not like that. Without knowing the bikes complete history it's hard to say what's happening there. When I did my last sprocket chain/alignment I used a laser to confirm the wheel was tracking straight, can't...

    Clearcoat removal question

Something that may work, oven cleaner. The suggestion came too late for me to try when I was removing a clear anodized coat from my wheels but others say it worked for them.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

I went with M-Blaze indicators, crazy small...but very bright! I've considered chopping my rear fender but I may yet shape a new one out of aluminum to match the rest of my fairing.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Filing down the bolts:rolleyes: ha that never occurred to me, I'll file that tip away in my brain for future reference. That demonstrates what's great about forums the accumulated experience and knowledge to solve problems, I've book marked this page you've added some very valuable info for...

Have you done a weight comparison for the new wheels vs the oem wheels?

    GSX1150 Rebuild

I had issues fitting my chain conversion and I have oem wheels. Changing to the 530 17/45 sprockets moved the chain height to where it would contact the peg hanger bolts. I found reversing the rear sprocket which was dished provided the extra couple of mm's I needed for clearance.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

That might be challenge for old brains as many of us have done chain and sprocket conversions long ago. If no one remembers you could figure it out by going to https://www.gearingcommander.com/ and entering the oem specs.

Why are CBs and KZs the popular ones.

We have a tendency to see things we have in common with others, I notice every Toyota Tundra on the road because I have one. So if you ride a GS you likely won't notice a CB as readily as another GS. I ride a CBX and a GS so I notice other CBX and GS when they cross my path. Locally I know...

    Gas Gauge went dead - 82 GS750E

it could be electrical it could also be the gauge inside the tank. The gauge on my 84 was always wonky as long as I've owned it. Last year I ran Sea Form through a tank full of fuel to clear the carbs then added some more to a full tank for winter storage, spring riding season arrived and for...

    GSX1150 Rebuild

I've never tried fibreglass for plastic repair, what prevents the cracks from opening on the surface? I looked into purchasing a plastic welder but dismissed it as too much money spent on a tool I'd likely never use again.

    GSX1150 Rebuild

Installing an engine on your own is a challenge, it's good to see another method of installation. I'll be doing the same in a couple of months but as mine will be complete tear down to paint the frame, So I get to lay the engine on it's side and drop the frame on it which I've never tried before.
