DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Help with GS750 Muffler Measurement

I'll go out and measure a bit later, and let you know. Breakfast time right now.

    Strange discovery adjusting valves

Don't worry about the loosish cable elbow. Aftermarket parts sometimes fit slightly differently, but work just fine. The two hole throttle tube is typical for the older GS750s with the VM carbs, which have two cables. You've installed correctly, from what is visible.

Restoration GS1100E Trying to keep it Original Appearance

Back to the original subject of this topic, consider original equipment vs. being able to use the bike. If new, disposable stuff gets put on so that the bike can be ridden safely, keep the warn, original bits to be included in a sale.

    1979 GS750E Orphan Wires

Farm out, found the wiring, and determined that the gear display works. Got the Dyna S installed and timed this morning, as well. Just waiting for the new airbox boots, and this puppy is just about ready to fire up.

    1979 GS750E Orphan Wires

Thanks, Rich, I have the manual. and the wiring diagram. As I have been sorting through the boxes of parts and so on that came with this basket bike, I keep coming up with the odd hint that some parts may have come from an 850 (which I have some familiarity with, but its been ten or so years...

Thanks, this helps a lot, now I can chase down what is missing in between the two wire pairs.

    1979 GS750E Orphan Wires

I just came across a couple pairs of orphan wires, Black/yellow, and white: male connectors at coil area, and female ones adjacent to regulator. There appears to be display for gears in the dash. Did the 1979 have gear display? Just one more clue that my bike basket project is a bitsa...

1979 GS750 carb vacuum ports identification

Thanks, Mr. TZ......that's what I thought. I have seen threaded ports on Z1 and other places, not difficult to tap some threads into the carbs.

Opinions on DL1000 V Strom as an 850 replacement

Seven years ago, I went from an 850 to something I hoped would be more comfortable (for me) on the highway: Concours 1000. Mistake, met all the expectations, but like riding a furnace in the summer. Five years ago, found a 2004 DL650 that needed the fuel pump bypass, and did that for less...

1979 GS750 carb vacuum ports identification

Continuing with the assembly of my latest basket case, I note that there are three vacuum ports on the carbs: #2, #3, and Groups Blogs has a brass port on it, (with a cap on it), but the other two had 5mm bolts siliconed in. I believe that the #3 is where the petcock vacuum goes? What is...

    Clutch Oil Seal Location

That is likely the clutch push rod oil seal, located on the left side of the bike at the clutch adjustor. Easy to remove and install.

    1979 GS750 Frame Dimensions

Yes.....I did go back out to the frozen shed, and the seat mounts are, on centre, 43 and 219mm from the south end of the battery bracket. Can you find an old frame and remount the section you need in its entirety?

    1979 GS750 Frame Dimensions

Wow, that is nasty. Yes, the measurements are all from the rear edge of the battery bracket you describe. Re: the seat hinges, perhaps it would be better if you located the hinges yourself using the seat and the seat latch.....then you would be closer with your nstallation as required.

    1979 GS750 Frame Dimensions

Yes, Frank was a good friend. We all miss his quirkyness. I will send some measurements a bit later, and we can se if I give you what you want. OK, rear sub-frame, rear of battery frame to flattened ends: 550mm. Fender loop: 415mm from battery frame. Not attached to fender, just locates...

    1979 GS750 Frame Dimensions

Does your 750 look like this, roughly? This is my 1979 GS750E, North American model. If we are talking about the same configuration, I can measure what you need.

    Clutch Cable Routing

Oh, yeah, if I have the luxury of working on a complete bike, then parts replacement is easy. This was another bike in baskets (I am a repeat offender), so lots of imagination and asking for assistance is my usual plan. Thanks, all, for helping out here.
