A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Project 700ES

jwhelan65 ...........that 750 looks downright awesome. Great job on the fine detail it looks impecable. My 1984 GS 750E is in good shape but doesn't even come close to yours man, well done! Those bikes are so underestimated and ride so well. No wonder I have a silly grin on my face everytime...

Calgary to the Kootenays - Return Trip

Funny how small the world is indeed. I spent a bit of time in the east Kootenays in the past (Cranbrook/Invemere areas) but unfortunately hardly ever on a motorcycle. I know what you folks are talking about when you talk about the "quality" of the roads within the southern interior of British...

    Easy method removing GS1100G starter?

Your stator is lightly bathed with engine oil. What you had dribble out when you pulled your stator cover off was indeed engine oil. Once you have it all buttoned up check your engine oil level via the site glass on the clutch cover as you normally do. Add engine oil using the clutch cover...

    Uh - Oh.......

ok, well I managed to bugger up this repair as well............. The issue I have now is that I drilled too deep into the cam retainer bolt hole when drilling out for the helicoil and came out the other side!! The hole where the bolt screws into now has no bottom to it where before it did...

repair of cracks in side panels

For the inside portion of the sidecover I have had very good success with JB Weld with the addition of some cloth fibers for strength. In my case I used some of those cloth drier softener sheets..............you know, the ones that make your clothes smell real purty when they come out of the...

A bit of confusion on some jetting issues..

Be aware of the pilot jet size. I don't know what stock pilot jet size is on your bike and I am aware you are running a header and less restrictive air filtration system. The pilot jet will affect the larger throttle openings in the carburator system as well.............needle valve, jet...

    Uh - Oh.......

Thank you all for your comments. I think I knew what was coming all along but wanted to hear it from you experts out there. My tool box will look better with some helicoil bits anyway............. It'll be the simplest and most accurate repair to go that way.

    Mikuni Carb puzzler

Yes for sure........as mentioned upthread, check your valve adjustment. Even if they turn out to be adjusted within spec it is something that needs to be completed. Then you can go from there. At this point, the valve lash is unknown on your engine. It could lead to some real uglies down...

Is my rear damping adjustment shot?

oh........I forgot to mention it, and Billy Ricks reminded me. For sure, if one gets as far as dismantling all the rear suspension pivots and linkages make sure you pull the swing arm and get some fresh grease on the needle bearings as well. I did the swing arm bearings on mine at the same...

Is my rear damping adjustment shot?

Everything mentioned by the other members till now is right on.,........... The Canadian 1984 GS 750 I bought a couple of years ago had the similar adjustment cable break where it connects to the lower portion of the shock. Innner cable was fine, just the outer cover was cracked and had broken...

    83-86 700/750ES Model Guys

    83-86 700/750ES Model Guys

I have a couple of parts bikes in my garage and one of them was the ES version. There is a groove machined into the fork where a metal ring butts up against, on top of the metal ring sits a rubber ring, then what you refered to as the "air joint" sits firmly on top. As the diagram further...

Difference between 700E and ES bar risers

mriddle is correct. Let me chime in as well on this...............I have an 84 750E and I have both the E and ES risers available to me. Its all a question of personal preference. I prefer the E rise myself (on the right in the picture) as this provides me with a more comfortable ride. The...
