A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Jet suggestions for pods, Kerker and Web cams #118

I rebuilt a set of 82 GS1100 carbs and put them on my GS1000G. (dipped, cleaned per Basscliff tutorial, re-set float heights, new gaskets and o-rings, and stage 3 jet kit.) Kerker 4 ->1, Pods ( k+n copies) and Web cams #118 And the bike runs like crap. Idle... sounds like it needs a tune-up...

I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

Steve- that would be the way to go... if I had old GS carbs to take the parts from. See post #1. I could convert to left thumb choke, but that would take more $$$.... and even worse, more time.

I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

for future reference..... Choke cables through the steering stem: part # 58400-49010 and 584010-45110 have barrel ends, fits most all GS 1980+ ( I am taking a guess that they are different lengths.) ( also try K28-2148)( or motion pro 04-0113) 58400-45100 has the smaller, pin type end, shown...

I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

Thank you for looking ! but when I google that part # for the Cooley, it shows me the barrel type. :-( After more searching, I found this : Part 548400-45100 Looks like the carbs I got are 1979 or older... or at least the bracket is.

I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

As I install the { freshly dipped, cleaned, and polished } carbs I bought last June, I now realize the choke cable on my bike has a barrel on it, while the 82-ish 1100 carbs I bought had a different cable end. My bike has the choke knob through the steering stem. ( previous carbs I took off...

    Reuse head gasket????

"not a clutch basket issue as its got all new..." Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but new bearings, steels and fibers has nothing to do with the springs in the basket getting compressed over time... Watch the video? When it was in the motor, it sounded like gravel bouncing around inside...

    Reuse head gasket????

I have re-used many, many lawnmower head gaskets. Even a few of the graphite ones! If Chuck's head was torqued, but not run, I know I would try to re-use it.

    stainless exhaust studs

It's been a while, but I was once told that "if your screw ( or stud) goes in at least as deep as the diameter, anything deeper is wasted material and $, and does not make it stronger. " But that may have been with similar materials, which you don't have. SO I guess i'm not helping, am I ...

snap-ring pliers won't fit into diaphragm cups - CV carbs

My snap ring pliers are too fat ( not skinny / long enough ) to allow me to remove the ring holding the needle on my CV carbs. Can you tell me what pliers you KNOW will work? Where to buy? I already tried doing a little grinding... still can't get mine slim enough to fit. And they are not...

check your ground connection before doing anything else !

After hunting this forum for help with my own "lazy" starter, I realized how many folks are checking the ground wire - last -. You should check it FIRST. It is just as important as the "hot" starter wire ! I have much experience with this... too much... bad ground from battery to frame cost me 2...
