A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Your thoughts on using 88 octane E0 with 1085 pistons.

Not really questioning that it's E0, but the pump disclaimer you mention about 2001 and newer is what is always on E15 pumps. Yes, 15% ethanol, not 10% and marked as 88 PO. I would double check it to be safe. The E15 pumps started popping up around me about a year or two ago. Big push from the...

SH775 , I thought were good price, but maybe not.

Good deal! Just for fun I did a search of just one of the Polaris part no.'s. for that unit. Must have been one of their newer ones, 2017, on. --$229.99 !! I recall that they were $44. new from Polaris perhaps 6 or 7 years ago. I suppose that they saw so many going out the door and jacked the...

    piston ring end gap spec

Ahh, missed that. So 2.44 inches plus amount of overbore in inches.

    piston ring end gap spec

timebombprod, if you're referring to your Suzuki GS650GL, the bore is 62 mm. Which would be approximately 2.44 inches.

Sonic Springs still a good company? Amy I getting scammed/ripped off??

I had ordered a set from Sonic about 2.5 years ago. I had a similar experience with very slow acknowledgement of order, then a good delay in shipping. Eventually received them ok. Likely not as bad of an experience as others have posted. Somehow I recall that his wife is the one doing the Sonic...

whats stops a front tire from being a rear?

Dennis Kirk currently has the rear Bridgestone BT46 in 120/90/17. They also list the front/rear Avon Roadrider MkII in that size ( one left). If you go with the bidirectional Avon make sure it gets mounted with the correct direction for rear use.

whats stops a front tire from being a rear?

I needed to get a new set of tires at the end of last year for my GS650G. I was able to get a 120/90/17 rear use speced Bridgestone BT46 but no 100/90/19 fronts available at the time. The BT46 may be about the only remaining 120/90/17 rear tire left? Other than a couple of ADV rear tires. So, I...

    1979 GS550N regulator/ rectifier or rectifier only?

I don't know if this is any help but looking at the parts fiche for a '79 GS550E it does have a separate regulator and rectifier. Here's a link to a parts seller page showing the '79 parts but not where they are installed. Image is copywrited so just a link. Could the box right above the Yamaha...

Help with Model Identification GS650 G/GT/GX????

Old thread here. Reading canuck1969's recent postings on completion of his excellent '81 650G (in the carb/fuel/exhaust tech section) had me re-reading this thread as well. The VIN on my '81 GS650G(X) is: JS1GP71G2B2101xxx Identical in year, color and striping to canuck1969's bike...

Hanging Idle Improves with Mixture Screw- Weird one

Just beautiful! I have the same model, year and color and can only wish mine looked that good! Personally, I like the tail on the 650G a lot. MO better than the boxcar tail on some of the GS's. The coffin taillight on the 650G is a bit hard to look at though.

    Voltage

I would also think that you are running at or below the ragged edge in available amperage. Not sure what GS850G charging system max output is with or without the Rick's stator. I've read of other GS models having from 210 to 250 watt max outputs. You sure freed up some draw with the LED lights...

    Can't find a Petcock for my 81 GS650E

Yes, the '81 GS650's had a one-year petcock. Later years had a fuel gauge sending unit, so the petcock was placed much more forward on the tank edge. The other years model could have the bottom portion flipped around, but the vacuum port (or is the fuel outlet?) would still be facing the wrong...

What year did Suzuki eliminate the headlight switch ?

My '81 GS650G has the switch. A PO had removed whatever cover was on the actual switch, so headlights can indeed be turned off or on. I always burn them when riding but it's nice not to need to otherwise. My state has a motorcycle headlamp on law but exempts bikes older than something like...

    Rockauto Discount Codes

I had to place an order last night. To my surprise I didn't have a discount code under my account. I've been using them for close to 20 years, a lot. At any rate, I went to Retail Me Not and got a Rock Auto 5% code that worked. Not sure how long it's good for. Retail Me Not seems to be the only...

    Catalog of U.S. dragstrips

Thanks for the link. Very interesting! There were a lot in my general area. Some that I had been aware of and others that I never knew of. Many were short-lived, especially unpaved tracks. At the big-league survivor, I was blessed to see some historic racers back in the 60's and early 70's. Earl...

    GKs are unusual . . . .

I've seen several GK's for sale online in Pa. over the last few years. They were mostly in pretty good shape by the photos. The pre pandemic prices were reasonable. One of those deals when if you want one, they're hard to find. Here's a well-used '82 in upstate New York (Geneva) on Facebook...

    GS 650G Petcock replacement?

I can't help with the specs, like fastener spacing or straw length. But you are fortunate it's not an '81, like mine, with no fuel gauge sender. One of a number of one-year quirks on a model with many of its own model design quirks. Mine is mounted at far rear side of tank and has vacuum and...
