If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

GS 650G Petcock replacement?

Sarcvicious

Forum Apprentice
I've been looking at Z1 Enterprises and the options for petcocks all seem to be universal.

Does anyone know what I should be looking for spec wise for a replacement petcock for an 82 650G?

I can't help with the specs, like fastener spacing or straw length. But you are fortunate it's not an '81, like mine, with no fuel gauge sender. One of a number of one-year quirks on a model with many of its own model design quirks. Mine is mounted at far rear side of tank and has vacuum and fuel fittings on the left side of the petcock. NLA

If it's any help, you can still get a new Suzuki petcock for the '82 or '83 GS650G. About $66. at Partzilla. Here's the link and you can pull up the cross reference models that used the same petcock. List is too long and forum won't leave me paste it.

Actually the mounting bolt spacing is 44 mm. eBay seller georgefix has these for about $45. I bought one from him years ago and it’s working. Avoid the $15 Chinese knockoffs.
You’ll also need the dowty washers under the bolt heads.

I'll just add my $.02 here. If you are considering after market, I would suggest Pingle. Might be a little more costly though but I would think they might be the top of the after market gas valves.

www.georgefixs.com
sells good quality (from accounts I've read, no personal experience) OEM style replacement petcocks, model/year specific. Look yours up, make sure you know the bolt spacing on your tank.

Thanks for the correction. I measured them this morning and got 45mm, but rounded up from memory. Good to know 44mm is the right spacing.

It seems I'm about the only one around here that has had good luck with the rebuild kits. I've rebuilt several of them without a problem. A few yrs. ago, my "05" Bandit 1200, that uses the same style pet cock, over the winter leaked a couple of gal. of gas into the oil. Not wanting to wait for a kit, I took the thing apart, cleaned the seat & seal, stretched the spring just a little. Still working fine.

Thanks for posting that. Every time I tried to paste it, I got an error message that it was over 10000 characters and too large. Even tried trimming down verbiage, but no go. It wasn't that large??
