DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Not so clean if you're close, ha! Yes, magnets. An old Givi bag that I had used on an airhead,

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Thanks Baatfam! Site would not let me upload photos at all except as attachments. Even after resizing. No problems doing that before. Looks like I might have knackered my phone lens with frequent alcohol cleaning.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Been taking fairly local rides on lockdown. This is at a Schuylkill river trailhead park I often stop at. Used to be loaded with totem poles and carved tree stumps done by a Marine corp vet. Most are rotted away now. Nice day! High 50's but breezy.

    More melted wires/connectors

Good to know Steve. I wasn't sure when the headlight on manufacturers rule started exactly. Some PO must have messed with my '81 switch and removed the block. I start it on headlight off, then switch them on when running.

    More melted wires/connectors

Good info here! When I get caught up on many other matters and projects I want to rewire my charging system. This is a picayune tidbit, but my 1981 GS650G still has the headlight on/off switch with one charging leg routed through that switch. I know that the '82 on GS650 did not have the...

    anyone from the chopper days?

I can't give a whole lot of insight into the chopper culture of the 60's-70's, but I'll add a few memories of those days. In the mid to late 60's in Pa., you would see some very nicely done HD knuckle head and pan head choppers and bobbers. Pa. was no. 2 in national bike registrations back...

    What the "L" means

I wouldn't reject an L either, but the bars would have to go. I've been tempted by several very clean and low priced L's I've seen listed in my general area. Mostly GS850L's. Also many, many brat bikes or attempts among the L's for sale. Usually way over priced or very cheap and don't run or...

    scraped good enough?

I had the pleasure of removing the oil pan on my 650 twice, a few months ago. The pan that came on the bike had a knackered drain hole. Surprised that the plug stayed in. Bought a used pan and installed it. Some how I didn't notice that the ebay pan had a light crack and of course, eventually...

    What the "L" means

I remember reading a road test in one of the bike mags when the first L models came out. 1979? A couple of staffers dressed out in what they considered chopper wear and cruised the Sunset strip. Somebody there called them "Laverne". I've seen a few showroom condition L models for sale in my...

what did you wrench on today??

Replaced warped front brake rotors today with used pieces. from a GS850, IIRC. I don't have a way to check runout but will test with ride soon. Not sure what new OEM front rotors spec new, but these were at 5.0 mm with my crude caliper. 4.5 is the wear limit. I have new front and rear pads on...

    '81 GS650G petcock application puzzler

I read Admiral Beez's thread on petcock troubles below. That got me checking on availability if or when I need one. ( no trouble right now). Partzilla shows "not available" for a OEM vacuum petcock for my GS650 G for "X" model. I believe that's '81. They do have availability for the "Z" model...

what did you wrench on today??

*** Edit: I apologize for originally posting this in obviously an unsuitable thread. Perhaps not the correct sub forum, either. Mods., please feel free to move or delete this post. I got the '81 GS650G 24k mi. last Oct. and had a chance to tend to a few things then and in Nov. Plugs, tires...

    Should I replace this tire?

Another vote for ditch it ASAP. I'm in one of 7 US states left with safety inspections and that would fail on any vehicle.

    Winter fuel stabilizer

I also do the fill tank completely, add marine formula Sta-bil and run in through the carbs. I've also used Starbron and Biobor's brands with good results. Always with zero ethanol fuel. I suppose that I wouldn't need the ethanol treatment type of additive, but the regular old style Sta-bil...

    come on mac (or seller)

I have a MAC megaphone system on my GS650G that came on my bike when I bought last Oct. I've had the system off and and on a couple of times. Mine fits quite well, but who knows how old it is. It obviously has some time on it. I wonder if you were sent the correct application for your GS650...
