A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Suspension and throttle questions

SSF forks aren't to bad, KTM dirt bikes and street bikes and Beta dirt bikes have gone that route for their standard models which are their top sellers. It's a way for MFR's to cut costs and reduce parts by half. Plus you can make all the adjustments while seated on the bike and not on your...

I am looking for some help with my '83 GS1100E fork setup using emulators

check your sag on the front forks all geared up, have a friend stabilize the bike while you sit on it. Your full weight on the bike the forks should sag about 25-30% of the total fork travel ( ie.100mm total travel then they should sink 25mm) if they sink more than that your spring rate is soft...

    Wobble at low speeds

vacuum just shows air is flowing through the carb. You need fuel mixing with that air to make the carb work.

    Trottle.

You just need to learn how to slip and feather the clutch to give you that little buffer between stalling and accelerating. Here is a good exercise for getting use to clutch engagement - Hill start/stop https://youtu.be/quYa8V8sMJo?si=A2VeCIzmhyC-3llt&t=205

    Steering stem removal and replacement

You can also replace the steering stem bearing with tapered bearings if they are not already, the taper bearings will really clean up steering input if you were running ball bearings.

If i recall the benefit of the dynojet needles were they had adjustable grooves letting you move the needle up or down.

    Sticking Slides

Thanks for jogging old brain cells, i recall having to super glue some little brass jets with smaller holes into my air jets when i did a stage 3 (aka pod kit) dynojet kit on my 81 550 20 years ago. It also came with some different mains, and needles.

    Sticking Slides

if you have bored out your 850 and aren't running a air box, your jeeting is way off. Even with a air box a bored 850 is going to draw more air and make oem carb settings lean. You need to jet much richer. You now have a flow closer to a stock 80's GS1000G. Granted your carbs are 32mm and the...

Clutch replacement - drive plates only?

I would do fibers as well as steelies. They have some age on them. It the steelies got hot enough to warp then the fiber's aren't likely very happy either. Throw the old fibers in box and horde them if you get in a pinch down the road. No idea what's in Valvoline blue bottle, but look for a...

New clutch in my 1982 Kat 1000

If you get bored and want to poke at the clutch, you can take the steel plates out and wire wheel them with a bench grinder, it will take off any glazing and work well as long as the steelies aren't warped from heat. before you reseal the cover with the new gasket, try placing the cover onto...
