A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Fork seal top side

Well, I copied the way the old ones came out. Old ones had the tighter spring (less visible) facing down. Numbers were facing up. They held up okay for pitted tubes and now I have cleaned-up tubes w/new OEM seals. I think the "wipe" on mine is facing down and I'm sure the identifying numbers...

No problem. We're glad to help. It's good to hear about great results. The Dyna Green coils are recommended by me too. Enjoy the riding season !! :saturn:

    No Fuel?

Whoa Steve, that's got to be the best explanation for the "choke" system of these bikes that I've heard. Anthony: If it's still not starting after your next attempt, check to see if the plugs are wet with fuel.

    Well, crap. Educated guesses?

+1. It's the sound of an engine imbalance caused by your dead cylinder at idle. My idle knock at one time sounded pretty bad. I still have it on video. It happened when the gas soured and the new (Dyna-S) timing was off a touch. The only thing you need to tear apart is the carbs.

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

You can have the 1+4 coil on the right side if you want, but OldVet66 gave you the correct color wires to hook them up properly if you didn't have them identified. Coil relay mod is a good idea if you need to gain some voltage. I did. Carry a spare relay with you if you go that route.

Spark plug wire ripped... OUCH! What now?

The polarity that doesn't matter is the primary side, meaning the small wires (positive, ground) going to the coil from the ignitor (or Dyna-S). If you know what small signal wire is for the 2,3 vs. the 1,4 then you can hook that up to either terminal on the coil. Once you do that, run the...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

I like the spelling you used because, in my opinion, it does pertain to intelligence at least in this part of Florida. Apparently, my perception of people anywhere near me is poor. To me they're mostly dumba**es. :witless: You're absolutely right about the destination part. I crave some...

    Building/equipping a workshop/garage.

I love your new garage plans and the ideas that have been thrown out there so far. Sometimes, there's nothing better than dreaming up designs for my future garage. Is the 8-feet ceiling limitation there because you plan to use the entire attic for storage and insulation or is it because of...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

The bear is obviously a squid. I've been trying to catch up on this thread to see where our friend has been. Dpep, since he's visited the beaches of the east coast of Florida, I think he'll enjoy a trip to the Sarasota County beaches on the Gulf without the annoyance of jellyfish. He can...

Toe shifter difficult to change gears

That would be the next step. Just try feeling the pivot of the shift lever externally before taking anything apart. It's the part of your shifter that's most rearward as bonanzadave describes if your shifter is set back and runs linkage forward. My bike is set up this way. It should feel...

Toe shifter difficult to change gears

It doesn't sound like an internal problem to me, just a matter of clutch disengagement. I think bonanzadave was referring to grease on any pivot point externally. I would check the clutch cable tension/ adjustment. Having difficulty getting a bike into neutral or 1st without rolling a bit is...

    Wiring in coils

The Dyna greens I bought didn't line up with factory tabs. Regardless, I had to move them away from the frame so the coil leads didn't dig into the front tabs. Using the back tabs, I mounted the new coil adding a nut or two for clearance if necessary. For the front of the coil, I angled them...

Airbox - Carb not staying on properly.

When I pull back in the driveway after a good ride and idle a few seconds, it wouldn't surprise me to be upwards of 300 deg. F. If you're not running too lean and you have clean oil at the proper level then it's probably not too hot. I usually shut mine off when it feels like a steady flow of...

Airbox - Carb not staying on properly.

Great! If I remember right, the inner airbox boots have a slight taper to them, so rotating them might help. ShadowFocus broke down the air box sealing as I would have. If your intake boots aren't pliable anymore then they probably aren't sealing perfectly. In that case get fresh ones. You...

Airbox - Carb not staying on properly.

Did you try spinning the intake boot? There is a wide side and a narrow side for my two outer ones. Loosen the clamp and try. I had the same problem until I got the position right. You shouldn't need to go to the mechanic. If you're okay with taking the carb rack off again then use an...
