A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS750 tidy up !

Finally got her put back together again now, after a bit of fun and games with the rear calliper. Fitted new pistons & seals, but when I started to bleed the brake a jet of fluid shot out of the pipe close to the joint with the flexi from the master cylinder, then dripped onto the newly painted...

    Exaust & jetting questions

Thanks guys, put my mind at ease a bit !. I had also forgotten to use the search feature, so just after I posted typed in Delkevic exhaust, quite a lot of posts and info came up. Looks like the pipes are ok to fit without messing with the needles or jets provided standard airbox is on, also that...

    Exaust & jetting questions

I`ve been spending my time in lockdown trying to get my 79 GS750 tidied up and back on the road after a long time sat in the garage. I stripped her right down and have rebuilt, not as well as I would have liked as plenty of time of course but a very limited budget. Anyway, the old exhaust was a...

    GS750 brake calliper piston size

After damaging the front calliper seals (see projects & rebuilds), just been online to try to order some new ones. Found that Motorcycle Products are about the only place to just get the seals, plenty of full rebuild kits out there but I only need the seals. Bit puzzled though, the bike is a...

    GS750 tidy up !

The bike is almost good to go now, spent last week on re-assembly. New battery arrived yesterday so popped it in and put a little gas in the tank. Bit nervous as I had done a fair bit of work on the wiring harness which was in a real mess, so was a bit unsure as to how good a job I had done, but...

    GS750 tidy up !

Until I took her apart, I was unaware that a previous owner had already fitted tapered bearings so believe that mod to the stem has been done, but thanks for that advice allojohn. I won`t be fitting pods, she is going back together totally standard except for a 4 into 1 exhaust.

    GS750 tidy up !

Thanks Hampshirehog, I had forgotten all about that exemption for historic vehicles !. The other 750, 550 and the CX500 have all been off the road a few years too, thats a good incentive to get them up and running too once this pandemic is sorted and budget is not so tight. But I can make a...

    GS750 tidy up !

Finally have got around to getting some work done on Gessie2, my 1979 GS750. The bike failed the MOT test about seven years ago on steering head bearings and although I bought a set of tapered bearings at the time, I just never got around to fitting them and so the poor old girl has been...

    Torque settings

Thanks hampshirehog, just what I was after. I think as you say, probably same for the 750. Much appreciated.

    Torque settings

Does anyone have a list of torque settings for a 79 GS750, in particular for the fork pinch bolts and the top bolt and pinch bolt of the upper yoke ?. My old Haynes manual does not give any, but is missing a page or two at the back.

    Steering head bearings

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Feeling a bit stupid this morning !. Took a look at the headstock this morning and a light clicked on in my excuse for a brain !. Pretty obvious as the stem thickens out in two places, 1" or so down from the top then at the base, the inside diameters of the...

    Steering head bearings

Thanks guys. Just had a look at the old cups, seem to be the same outer diameter, but will have a good look at the new ones tomorrow. On my bike, there was no way to knock the cups out as at both top & bottom there is a bit of a radius of the headstock just before the bearing seats, so no way to...

    Steering head bearings

Just in the process of replacing the head bearings on my 1979 GS750, but could use some advice. I ordered a set of All balls bearings, but have been scratching my head a bit !. I assumed the top and bottom races are the same, but the packaging for each bearing have different numbers. The set...

    Bike observations in California

We are staying in Santa Barbara until Sunday, then going down to Ventura. One day there then back to La then, unfortunately back home to the dull weather and work !. Wondered whether we had any members in SB, did see a GS750 down near Stearns Wharfe.

    Bike observations in California

Been speaking to a few locals, biggest gripe they have is the taxes. Forest fires and earthquakes don,t seem to worry them too much, but guess if you grow up here you learn to live with it ?. Was told you can take out insurance, but very expensive. Out and about today, saw a couple of nice...

    Bike observations in California

Thanks Rob, it is a tad warmer here than north east England that is for sure, at Anza Borrego it hit 98 deg !. Bit more bearable in Santa B, love this place, would move here in an instant, just need to win the lottery first. Dawn saw a place she liked in a real estate magazine, a bargain at...

    Bike observations in California

My wife Dawn and me are on vacation again in sunny southern California. Great to get away from the s....y British weather and Brexit !. Started in La and drove to San Diego then across to Annza Borrego desert then across to the coast, now in Santa Barbara. Noticed most bikes we saw in SD &...

    She lives !

Thanks Steve, I think the valve clearances were due for a check when I parked her up, so will check those as she did sound a bit tappety. Hi Charlie, had to chuckle about the Harley, that would be interesting but I think we both know the answer to that one;). Already had more problems with it in...
