A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Stator made himself at home in his room. Found a comfy chair, so decided to put his feet up and catch some sleep. After a bit of kip, did some exploring.

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Just heard from Stator again, he has been kept busy this last week. Here he is helping fly the helicopter. John was a bit concerned when Stator started messing with the controls ! But finally they got to land on the rig ok.

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Hoping to get some more pics from him soon. He is staying with John the pilot on a big accommodation rig in the oilfields, basically like a hotel on legs where the workers live. They get flown out by helicopter from there each day to the rigs and back. John and Stator will be there ferrying...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Just heard from Stator, he is now on an oil rig out in the North Sea. Think he appreciates the flying jacket we gave him before he left even if it won`t fasten at the front, could be all the muffins he ate when staying with Allie. Anyway, here he is at the heliport at Aberdeen. He insisted in...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

I was a bit worried Charlie, but he turned his attention to my Enfield after a few minutes. Also was`nt too impressed with the state of my garage so will have to tidy up a bit before he gets back from his stint on the rigs !. Think he felt more at home on the Bandit, not a GS but at least a...

    Stator, The GSR travelling mascot.

Stator arrived safely after taking a short rest in London staying with Charlie`s daughter. He was feeling a little tired after the journey up north, but insisted on doing a bit of work on my 750. Not sure about his choice of tools, but left him to it. Dawn and I were going to show him around...

what did you wrench on today??

Finally got around to making an engine stand, basically a sturdy frame on castors to sit my old CX500 motor on so its at a comfortable height to work on when I start to strip it down for a re-build. Think old age is affecting my brain as well as my back and arms though, had`nt considered how to...

    Travel Tales from the UK

If you get up County Durham way Charlie, give me a shout. Self employed now, so have a good boss and can take time off at short notice !. If you are heading for the Lake District might be able to meet up somewhere there, not far from here really. I`ll pm some contact info just in case.

1981 Yamaha Virago carb sync question

Been a while since I synced the carbs on my 750, but fairly straightforward if I recall. Any other work on them was a pain in the a..e, so I ended up making a manifold to take a single carb. Used an SU from a Morris Minor car, much simpler and easier to work on. Do you have a manual for the bike...

what did you wrench on today??

Thanks Grimly, I`ll give that a shot. Don`t have a dremel but should be able to use a hacksaw if I`m careful.

what did you wrench on today??

With the MOT test coming up, thought I`d better check the exhaust on "Henry" my Royal Enfield. I know, not a Suzuki but he shares the same garage as the Bandit & GS750s !. Thought the note had changed and the exhaust sounded louder than usual, found a big hole along the underside of the silencer...

    Jennifer's Makeover

Just had to chip in here and congratulate you too Stan. Enjoyed following Jennifer`s transformation and the end results are well worth all your hard work, the bike looks fantastic. Said it before, its inspired me to get on with restoring my 750 (eventually). But hey, think Jennifer deserves a...

what did you wrench on today??

No real issues like with the starter, but I was having carb problems anyway and found them pigs to work on, especially removing them to strip and clean, then re-fitting. The Moggie Minor SU is such a simple basic carb and a doddle to get at to adjust, also easy to remove and refit.

what did you wrench on today??

Finally got the last few jobs done to get my XV750 back on the road with a single carb set up. I`ve made a manifold to take an old SU carb from a Morris Minor. Not the best looking set up, but heck of a lot simpler and easier to work on than the standard carbs !. My stepson rode it to the MOT...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Thanks Charlie G, took some persuading to get her in the shots, hates having her photo taken when she is wearing her bike gear because she says it makes her look like the Michelin man :). Ever see the movie American Werewolf in London ?. The scene where the two lads walk into the pub and...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Had to go check on a job today, nice weather so decided to take the Bandit, my wife decided to come along too. Here is Dawn with the bike at Bishop Middleham, our destination. It was sunny when we set out, but soon clouded over. On the way back, stopped to take some pics at a village called...

Let's hear your story of your first bike laydown/fall/tipover!

Back in 1998 if I remember right, was riding my CX500 ratbike "Betsy" down a country lane I was`nt familiar with and probably a bit too quick, on a very wet day. A right hander came up and seemed quite a gentle sweeping bend at first, but soon tightened right up. Going too fast into it, in the...

    Jennifer's Makeover

I was getting a bit worried too, thought those busybodies (polite terminology) had stuck the oar in again !. Anyway, been enjoying following this rebuild, giving me inspiration and kick up the backside I need to get on with my 750. She has been off the road a year now, gathering dust in the...

    The journey of GS550C

Hi Hakim, looks like you have been keeping busy. I have the same sort of luck with my bikes, simple jobs always seem to go wrong. Great pictures by the way, as always enjoyed looking at those. Congratulations on your first long solo ride, can be tiring but you did the right thing taking a few...
