A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Mikuni carbs fuel transfer tubes leaking GS 750

Stock carbs don't have copper link tubes with a rubber sleeve so it sounds like someone in the past have made their own . Depending on year and model the link tubes are either turned aluminium with 'o'rings or cast aluminium with a bonded ribbed rubber coating. Suitable replacements can be found...

    Spark Plug Reading

The base ring is mixture/jetting and the ground strap is heat range. The base ring should have a light turn of soot and the ground strap a tan colour which darkens on the bend towards the base ring. Your plug looks to be in the ballpark and maybe slightly on the rich side unless you have other...

Looking for confirmation on likely source of fuel leak

Yes! It's the main air jet passage to the needle jet tube and likely overflowing due to excess fuel height in the bowl caused by either a sticking/leaking float valve or similar.

stripped carb bowl hole - best thread insert?

I helicoil them back to M4 but the stripped out thread is the correct size to run an M5 tap through so you could do that and fit m5 bolts.

Nick on cam journal - problem? Fix?

Looks like a casting flaw ( air pocket ) which was revealed when the journal was bored. Won't be a problem so leave it as is.

Mikuni BS/CV and VM O-ring Kits

Depending on the condition of the old seals it can be very tricky and time consuming getting them out as many times they can be as hard as plastic so won't simply pull out and unless the seals are undersize or the incorrect shore rating ( i.e too soft ) it is impossible to reliably fit new seals...

    Performance parts for gs850g.

Once you pull the head it will be obvious whether the pistons are higher comp. Either that or do a comp test when warm and see if the readings are substantially higher than stock.

    Starts w full choke but won’t idle - GS750C

I'd first ensure that the pilot circuits are clean, that there's no blocked pilot jets and no broken fuel mixture screw tips blocking their outlets in the venturi floor before going any further.

    Carb rebuild kit recommendations

As others have advised. Never replace any original brass internals unless they are physically damaged and then only use genuine Mikuni / Keihin items or Keyster if genuine is unavailable. The only parts that may benefit from replacement are service items such as float valves, gaskets and 'O'...

    Pilot jets

There is no upgrade. Providing the bike is run regularly and the tank and fuel lines are free from debris etc they rarely give any trouble. Occasionally one may get a partial blockage which usually clears on the run but for all four to become blocked is nearly always the result of the carbs...

    GS1000 Electronic Ignition/CarbQuestion

For pod filters you should fit air correctors, Leave ALL other settings, needle position and pilot jet STOCK and just increase the main from 95 to 110 as a starting point ( you should end up around 102/105 ) Pods should be quality free flowing K&N, S&B, APE, Unifilter etc and not cheap chinese...

    Spark Plugs

Yes! They were initially developed to reduce interference ( static) with radios and tv's . On newer vehicles they are also specified to prevent malfunctions with the onboard electronic ignition systems and ecu's etc which can affect running. If the vehicle wasn't originally specified resistor...

    Spark Plugs

Supplies of nos B8ES are plentiful and there are loads of genuine NGK B8ES on ebay but i'd steer clear of Amazon.. I buy them in boxes of 10. Very easy to spot a fake and ebay always sides with the buyer if you happen to receive any and returns are free if the item is not as described so no big...

    Spark Plugs

No need for anything fancy. Plain non resistor is fine especially if you have resistor leads or caps. Never run more than one source of resistance if any..

    GS1000 Electronic Ignition/CarbQuestion

The ignition has no affect on carburation and whatever filtration you use on the intake won't affect the ignition. The mechanic has likely made an error when fitting and timing the Dyna. Also that 130 main jet is miles too big and should be more in the area of 115 - 117.5..

Risks running pod filters in wet weather?

I've been running the same K&N pods on my daily rider/main transport ( don't own a car either ) for 25 years in all weathers and never had an issue in the rain.

    Spark Plugs 1980 GS1000gt

They are designed to expose the hotter kernal of the spark for a better burn. Very much like sidegapping the ground electrode on the more commonly used ( and cheaper to produce) single electrode design of plug. Still not going to affect carb sync though so if the problem only appeared with the...
