A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Help! Carburetor/fuel mixture problem (I think) 1979 GS1000

What pods are those? If they are cheap chinese, Emgo, Hi, Level, etc etc they are garbage and will cause restriction and over rich running. Either remove them altogether while you get the bike running or get some quality free flowing pod such as K&N, S&B, APE or RamAir fitted now. Also from your...

GS1000G Clutch - New Cable - Slips @ speed but won't slip when stationary.

Clutch dragging at low speed and slipping underload is warped plain clutch plates and probably worn out frictions. New clutch pack needed.

Can't get her to idle without choke

You should junk the chinese jet kit and replace only with Genune Mikuni or Keyster.. There's a very good chance it's the source of your issues.

Modern Exhaust Header on 80's Vintage GS

Most modern engines are water cooled and the cylinders are canted forward. This makes the headers narrower spaced and at least the first bend out of the head at a shallower angle which makes them no where near a fit for the earlier more upright air cooled motors. Already been down this road and...

POD Filters - Does Shape Matter?

Also if considering pods with CV carbs you should look to fit the DUAL type pods if available. CV carbs like still air and dual pods go someway to balancing out the individual intake pulses which upset the diaphragms and cause slide flutter. As for the off idle lean spot i have a simple proven...

POD Filters - Does Shape Matter?

It's not the shape but the air flow capabilities. This type of filter can be any shape as long as it flows enough air to equal or exceed the demands of the engine ( which is just an air pump ) whilst providing adequate filtering without restriction. Compared to a single airbox the combined area...

POD Filters - Does Shape Matter?

The pod shape doesn't matter. ( velocity stacks are a different subject ). It's the quality and air flow capability that does. Using un-named or cheap chinese brands such as DNA,EMGO, HiLevel, etc etc is asking for trouble as most actually flow less than the stock airbox or mask the air passages...

GS650GL - Getting carbs back to baseline from mismatched jets

I would return to stock and use genuine Mikuni parts and if forced to use aftermarket then Keyster if they cover your model. All other Ebay and Amazon "kits" should be avoided like the covid.. Money spent on the correct parts now is going to save you a bunch further down the line.

    non abrasive/ invasive aluminium/mag dip

Mask off the bores and machined gasket faces then depending on the nature and severity of the corrosion etc blast them with glass bead , aluminium oxide or baking soda. You can also jet wash or have them aqua or vapor blasted which has corrosion inhibitors to prevent flash rust if it weeps onto...

    Help! Carburetor/fuel mixture problem (I think) 1979 GS1000

For the pods just fit air correctors, leave ALL other setting, pilot jet, needle position stock and fit 105 mains.. That's it..

    Dyna copy

I know a couple of people who have bought them to test. So far so good. They perform as good as the originals and appear to be exactly the same but without the DYNA packaging right down to the same part numbers. Dynatek switched production to China a good few years ago so it's likely a patent or...

    Slide valve cut out

vacuum balancing won't affect fueling or mixture. That sounds more like an idle fueling issue. Probably pilot jet blockage, over rich on the mixture screw or even electrical problem on the ignition side, faulty plug etc.

    Slide valve cut out

They all need to be set at the same height on the bench as a base line with the adjuster screws being around mid way travel on their threads to allow for sufficient adjustment either way. Once on the bike you need to vacuum sync to ensure each cylinder is producing equal amounts of work. Once...

    Murrays Carbs.

If twin carbs produced equal or more overall power than the original four bank then Suzuki would have saved a bunch of manufacturing costs and fitted some themselves. But they didn't !

The self contained DYNA 'S' is not exactly new. I've had one on my daily rider for over 20 years and run them on all five of my bikes.

Intake issue or not (see pictures)?

That's the result of being run a very long time with worn out valve stem seals and likely long term blowback from badly seating valves. Either that or it's been dredged up out of a river. That's some of the worst deposits i've seen on the intake side. 1 and 2 may have had water sat in there if...

    Pilot jet plug

The plugs must remain in place and ideally be a snug fit. The pilot jets take their feed via a cross drilling from the main jet. If the plugs are left out the bike will run extremely rich. The plugs are only to be removed to allow direct access to the pilot jets for cleaning etc and must be...

    Cylinder three running extremely hot

With the carbs off, if you spin the motor on the starter and place your palm over the inlet rubber you will feel the suction. momentarily stop the starter and pull your hand off the inlet, you will feel the suction and hear a light pop as the vacuum is released from the inlet tract.. Do this in...
