Rear brake refurbished STILL NOT ENOUGH BITE

Hello everyone. During those crazy lockdown times we all live in I decided to dive into my GS550E rear brake system in anticipation of summer and freedom at last. I removed the caliper and the master cylinder cleaned them meticulously using vinegar baths and compressed air. Rebuilded both of...

Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

Steve what are your thoughts on the fact that some shims seem OEM (like hardened surface) and other ones look bright shiny ones?? I assume they are aftermarket?? Also those <<shiny>> ones look like they have scratches on them but the lobes are all good

Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

Allojohn thanks for dropping in! I understand that the valves get tight with use same thing happens also to the valves of my single cylinder BMW R26 (but it has screw adjustment valves). So using this logic is it safe to keep riding and don?t reduce the clearances in the valves that I have for...

Nessism thank you for your input I already checked everything going to my ACCEL coils all look good also checked for spark and got big fat blue one in each plug. Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

Chuck how is it possible that the chain jumped a tooth and threw the timing off?? In the evening I measured again the chain links from the arrows on the cams and they were OK. 20 if I remember correctly (it?s been 1 year since I did a top end rebuild so my memory is rusty) so I doubt that...

Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

It?s an 1980 E model. Steve the vacuum line is always plugged on the bike from the moment I bought it. The previous owner not wanting to deal with the vacuum operated petcock I guess plugged it and used a manual fuel valve to close and open the flow of fuel to the carbs while parking the bike or...

Going CRAZY with worry after valve check

Steve thanks for the quick reply.! All the measurements I got was with the way of starting from the No1 exhaust lobe being parallel to the head and the No2 exhaust being upwards and then continuing with the procedure as described on the manuals or even Basscliffs website! Could it be that I put...

    Ohlins stx36 twin s36e su324

Thanks a lot for the replies my friends yes the price is a steal at 290? because obviously the guy has them on his shop a long time and now wants to get rid of them I believe. My concern is still that I was thinking that the GS range had identical frames for example the GS550/GS650. The bike...

    Ohlins stx36 twin s36e su324

Hello my friends. I wanna upgrade the rear shocks on my GS550E and I found those shocks from a local dealer on a very BIG discount due to cleaning old stock. The question is those shocks are registered on the OHLINS page as GS650,GS400(but also as universal custom motorcycle shocks) and are...

    Mystery plug and pipe temperature

After removing the carbs cleaning them thoroughly and replacing the No3 carb boot that goes to the cylinder everything worked well all plugs have nice tanned colour and all pipes heat-up the same. So I think the leak on the boot was the culprit.!

    Suzuki GS 550, strange sound

Depends on what rpm this sound occurs.. When I got my gs550e I heard that sound at around 1000rpms and I was going nuts. Turns out it?s something that all GS engines do at low rpm and yes it?s caused by the cam chain moving around a little bit which after an extensive search everyone says to...

    The famous rotella oil

    Mystery plug and pipe temperature

Thanks a lot man.! I was thinking about taking the carbs out for cleaning just to keep my mind at ease and I think I found the culprit of my problem.. Mystery plug and pipe temperature

Greetings guys first time posting here. I recently aquired a GS550E. The bike was rebuilt from scratch into a cafe racer from the previous owner. When I got the bike home before starting to change fluids etc etc as a new owner I noticed something weird. Pipe No3 was running hotter than the rest...
