A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Save the Date: 2026 Brown County Indiana Rally - June 11-14, 2026

I've got it down on the calendar, but now with a baby in the mix any weekends away from the family are gonna be tenuous for a bit. But I feel predisposed to go, as I am back in the Suzuki fold these days.

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

We're only a few weeks away from this. Do folks want to coordinate to try and meet up somewhere near the swap meet entrance or wherever else at a certain time on Friday or Saturday? I'm riding in Thursday around noon and staying til Sunday morning.

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

I wonder if there's a good place/time for us to plan to meet up at the track? Ideally a place to park bikes together or something like that? I'll be staying at a buddy's place near the track but I don't have the gall to turn his driveway into an impromptu GSR meetup :p

what did you wrench on today??

Installed a factory center stand on the '98 Bandit along with the new Delkevic slip on exhaust (18" oval can and mid pipe, was a reasonable $239 shipped). Much better looking, much quieter (with the db killer installed) than the ratty DanMoto unit that the bike came with. Missing a bit of...

2025 "Ride or Rot" Vintage MC show Ft Wayne IN Aug 17

bwringer and I are scheming on possibly riding up from Indy to Fort Wayne Indiana for the "Ride or Rot" Vintage bike show August 17th: https://rideorrotftw.wixsite.com/rideorrotftw I've never been so I can't vouch for how good or not it is.

    Gs1000g troubles

Do you have any mechanical aptitude or background, working on cars or anything? Anyone can learn anything of course, doubly so with the power of the internet at their hands. As others suggested, poking around the Newbie Mistakes thread is the place to start to see if you want to go down the...

Back in the "sort of" GS Suzuki fold: '98 Bandit 1200S

I regretted it as soon as I sold my silver '02 "naked" Bandit, and decided that at some point I'd have another. But I wanted to get back to a 1st gen "S" like the '99 I owned back around 2014. My "ideal" one would have been that awesome forest green they came in, but black or blue would be great...

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

Older ones? I think there's a little bit of *everything* there from what I've heard. It's a massive swap meet of jap/import stuff.

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

I was debating ponying up for a tent spot just to be in the middle of the craziness but decided I preferred to stay at my buddy's place (where we will do some partying of our own I'm sure). I'll send you a private message so you have my contact info if you want to meet up!

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

Haha well put Rich. I think we should instead start scheming on a 2026 PA ride, I'd like to trailer the Sportster out that way to spend a few days on back roads.

2025 AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio (Lexington OH)

Is anyone else planning on attending the AMA Vintage Days weekend July 25-27 at the Mid Ohio racetrack in Ohio? https://vintagemotorcycledays.com/ I've been meaning to go here for years, and I'm finally making it happen. I'm planning on riding out from Indianapolis and meeting up with my...

what did you wrench on today??

I have honestly never struggled as much with brakes as I have with these rear units on the XS1100s. I don't know what it is but they are an absolute bear to bleed properly, maybe something to do with the master cylinder being mounted lower than the caliper? No idea. Anyways I've messed with...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

That's how it seems to always be with the old bikes. Perhaps the worst form of "neglect" with them is to let them sit! Thus I've slowly learned to keep a smaller fleet, given my limited time available to ride.

    Spark Plug Reading

That looks like a decent plug color to me. Does it smell "gassy" at idle? What's the throttle response like from a roll on at low rpms?

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Hey Rich! Unfortunately we're going to be driving out to NY to visit my parents the weekend of the rally this year :/ My one "big ride" I've got planned will be in late July to ride out to the AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio then a loop south/west down to Kentucky to meet up with my family (which...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Just some local commuting to and from work for me, mostly on my new-to-me '95 Sportster 1200 that I picked up this winter for a great price.

A one year rider and a 46 year old sport touring motorcycle - 1979 GS850

Looks like a great bike and you've definitely done your research on common modifications/weak spots to address etc. In regard to your plans for upgrades down the road, my own approach has always been "ride it a while and see what really needs done." I used to *HATE* the big bulky aftermarket...

    2025 Brown County GS Rally - June 19 - 22

Have fun guys, I'll be driving out to NY that weekend with the family, otherwise I would have ridden the '79 XS1100F I've been working on over the winter for a proper shakedown run. Maybe I'll sneak in a ride with Brian if he's going down there for some scouting

    Hello

For the brakes, I've had good luck with Galfer kits on my GS1100E and XS1100. Affordable, I think they sell them via an ebay store. Massively improved front brake feel, all of the sponginess is *GONE*

New Coils, no spark at 1 and 4. Narrowed down to CDI (maybe?)

This is going to be difficult then. It takes a lot of patience and being methodical to troubleshoot these old bikes. Just throwing a bunch of random parts at them is a very expensive way of going about things.
