A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Ngk plug shortahe

Fun fact, the screw-on lug for the NGK 4554 'racing' plug doesn't screw on... OR off. Maybe I missed that somewhere. So it won't readily work with my NGK plug boots :/

    Sparking ignition points

Well this is a great thread. I was actually looking to see if people were having trouble finding replacement points for our bikes, cause the ones for the 79 750 seem to be pretty scarce. Especially LH ones. I'm not anxious to convert to electronic ignition but maybe I'll have to - unless it's...

    Speedometer/tach lube?

Thanks that does help a bit in visualizing it. It sounds like there's no direct physical contact between the needle and the cable and if I ever needed to directly lubricate the needle I'd need to pop the gauge open.

    Speedometer/tach lube?

Sounds like I'm in the ballpark anyway. The needles operate just fine, yet the part where the inner cable fits was seized. I'm having trouble visualizing what goes on between the cable and the needle. I remember sawing my 550 gauges apart because the needle was super sluggish while the cable...

    Speedometer/tach lube?

I'm curious what others use to keep their clocks running on their bike - I haven't been using anything but apparently I need to. Last week my speedo cable broke on the way home from work. When I put the new one on I noticed the receiver thingy in the gauge (that the square end of the inner cable...

    750 cams in a 1000?

Hahah last year people were sporting those cheery cartoon avatars on Facebook so I made one appropriate for the times by pasting Commodore Decker's mug on one (Just before he gets incinerated in the planet killer's maw). I guess it's old news now. I did not see your pizza thread. I'll look for...

    750 cams in a 1000?

Ed how do you (and certain others) go around knowing all this stuff? We'll keep you around here forever.

Cleaning tips for grit and baked oil

I spent a good chunk of my day cleaning this area on my bike in preparation to change the chain and sprockets. I just described the crud living there as "That dark matter under the clutch cover of a motorcycle - an amalgam of chain lube, engine oil, road tar, bits of gravel, worn sprocket...

    Skunks...what are they?

It made it onto a backup drive so I think it's in for the long haul. I'm adding the cleaned up one however.

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

I've been able to order two different times using the web, the latest was last year... but probably only because I used links from this thread. The place looks like they built it with the Geocities tool. Great product though!

    Stainless Allen Bolt Set???

I may pick a set up this spring, will be watching this thread. I hope it's really a complete set, the one I bought from CycleRecycle didn't have a lot of what I needed... and lots of what I didn't.

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Thanks for curating this info Ed! I just did a rear line for my bike, easy peasy! The brake was dragging pretty bad so I went over everything, I was suprised how little crud I got from the MC and especially the caliper. Changing the brake fluid often helps... The return port did indeed look...

    Locating the rear wheel

I will certainly refer to that info. Or I could just install an infinite improbability drive and whip up a nice hot cup of tea.

    Locating the rear wheel

Well I have the thing together and it seems to be right. The rubber baby buggy bumpers were fine, sprocket seats perfectly. Nobody's touched that rotor in a jillion years. Bearings are in spec. Since the only rational explanation is that the rear axle intersected with a wormhole while the wheel...

    Locating the rear wheel

Thank you fellows no I am not in the least concerned with dumbing down or corner of mouth talking. Any effective (and civil) method of transmitting knowledge is welcome. I will check the rubber baby buggy bumpers and the rotor. Rotor does not look tampered with but I'll double check. I keep...

    Locating the rear wheel

Well it seems that my bearings are in fine fettle. The spacer tube is present between the bearings. The inside and outside diameters of the bearings are flush. It seems like the only option left is a bent caliper mount. That's a pretty sturdy hunk of aluminum so that's highly improbable. What...

    Locating the rear wheel

It's probably camera angle and possibly a bit of smoosh from the tight fit. Without the carrier in place the caliper drops down right over the rotor nice and centered, as it always has.
