A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Carb choke rail lever needed...

Working through the carbs on my 1982 GS1100G and I need to ask if anyone can help me out locating one part in particular, and another if it is required? Part # 83 looks to be a guide for the choke cable that goes on after the spring and before the last lever for the choke plunger on the #4...

You should absolutely get the o-ring kits from Ed! It's worth it to not have to find them all yourself. Link in his signature. ^^^^^ I ordered a set last Friday afternoon from him and he got it in the mail in like 30 minutes. Made it from CA to TX and in my mailbox Monday!!! Thanks again Ed...

    Moto1988 carb boots

Thanks Dave for directing my here.. I think I saw somewhere that someone else had to rotate them 180* to get that last 3/8" to line up on the airbox. Might have been in a review I read. I'm doing the carbs (With o-rings from Ed!) on the 1100G I just bought and ordered the o-rings for the boots...

Definitely agree with Rich. Check that Stator for short to ground on each leg and should get around 70 VAC between the legs when running at 4k rpm. If that checks out, then put in an SH775 and wire according to the diagram with all new connections. Real SH775's are all over eBay right now for...

    Bike randomly died while riding.

Some of the cheap compression testers are garbage. Even on a cold engine it should be higher than that if you can start it.

what did you wrench on today??

New to me 1982 GS1100G. Got it started with a fresh battery and barely ran on choke. Time to clean the carbs... 3 out of the 4 slides are stuck, but overall not very bad in the bowls.

    Identifying seal 81 750

#57 is a lock washer for the float bowl screw. The carbs on my GS850GL have the same rubber "spacer" in there. I just reused the old ones. I believe it is just to take up space and hold the float bowl gasket flatter when you tighten it down. Or maybe to keep the metal plug from vibrating out...

May be referring to that flat rubber ring that goes under the float bowl gasket...?

Just bought another GS this weekend, a 1982 GS1100G. Came with a clear windscreen installed on the bars. I recently installed a Puig smoked windscreen that mounts to the headlight bracket on the 1980 GS850GL I have owned for 10 years.

    1983 gs850G valve cover breather

Yes that stuff is supposed to be there. 4 pieces, in 2 places. Catches oil and lets it Drip back down into the valve cover. Just letting the vapors through.

Be careful with the valve cover bolts. They like to break off easily.

Nice pics everyone. Voting for storm 64. I just took the family to the Johnson Space Center in January and parked about 4 spots up from where your bike is. This photo looks a bit older... there is now a Falcon 9 booster rocket exhibit in the top left.
