A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

RPMs increase and decrease with blinker?

Sorry, that’s not what I was trying to get at. To use your terminology, I should have asked if the engine will “throttle up” when the brake light is on? (Thinking you may have a marginal shared ground that is reducing current to the coils, but the ground improves with more current (i.e., brake...

RPMs increase and decrease with blinker?

Let's try to see if the electrical system is causing the issue.. Put your volt meter across the battery terminals. What is the voltage Start and idle the engine. What is the battery voltage? Activate the brake light What is the battery voltage with the brake light on? Release the brake...

83 1100E lighting "Gremlins" have just started

I know what you mean. My 85 year old eyes require a magnifying glass to follow some of those wiring schematics. Good to hear you tracked it down.

83 1100E lighting "Gremlins" have just started

Are you sure that 15 amp fuse was in the correct slot? I don’t believe the 15 amp fuse should be connected to the starter relay. One side of that 15 amp fuse gets power directly from the battery, while the other side connects to the Output side of the R/R and the ignition switch. Are there any...

    gs650e Stator + R/R issue

Exactly, with a fuse between the battery and the R/R positive jumper wire. Is that a glass fuse or a blade fuse. As Nessism pointed out, disconnect that jumper wire at each end and ohm it. That fuse may be dropping some voltage. ”f I disconnect from the battery the negative R/R output” I’m not...

    gs650e Stator + R/R issue

Sorry, but I’m having trouble following this, but let met try by asking a few questions . ”R/R connected directly to the battery”. Does this mean you ran a jumper wire from the R/R positive output directly to the battery positive post? AND that you ran a jumper wire from the R/R negative wire...

    gs650e Stator + R/R issue

How I would check the original bike circuit, I’d disconnect the red wire from the R/R and disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery. With your meter on resistance (ohms) scale, Place the red probe of you meter on the red wire where it was connected to the R/R. Place the black probe...

    Cannot start GS700ES, no spark

Put the positive probe of your voltmeter where the white wire connects to one of the coils. Put the negative probe of your voltmeter to a good ground, or to the battery negative post. With the ignition key in the ON position, crank the engine. That white wire should go to the ignitor box ...

    gs650e Stator + R/R issue

Not sure just how you are connecting the “red output” to the battery directly, but there must be an open in that connection. Ditto for the “original bike circuit”. Verify both with your ohm meter. Just for clarification, how are you determining “Not charging”?

    Cannot start GS700ES, no spark

11.78 volts at the positive terminal of the coil’s primary circuit is good. This check split the coil primary circuit in half. All the wiring, connectors, and switches from the battery up to the coil are good. Now let’s check the ground side of the coil primary circuit. Take a voltage reading...

    Cannot start GS700ES, no spark

With the ignition key in the “On” position, do you have voltage at the wire feeding the coils? (I think it might be an O/W wire, not sure on the GS700.)

    Another charging issue...

Understood. But what I’m referring to is where the output of the R/R goes into the main harness on its way to the battery. At least on my GS750ET, about a foot into the main harness, the R/R output wire has a manual splice into the main harness. On my bike that splice was turning green. Before...

    Another charging issue...

Are you taking those voltage readings at the battery? If so, what do read at the R/R output? And does anyone know if the GS650 has that nasty old splice about a foot into the main harness where the output of the R/R ties into the main Harness? That splice on my GS750 was turning slightly...

    SH775 install frustrations

Okay, I found if I take a picture of my modified wiring diagram with my ipad, and mail it to my laptop I can get a better picture loaded to flickr that is right side up and I *think* can be enlarged by clicking on the picture to make it even bigger when viewed in the forum. Here's hoping! Diag...

    SH775 install frustrations

I have studied the wiring diagram for my 1980 GS750ET.. It seems to me ALL the current to run the bike must travel up to the ignition switch AND THEN back to the glass fuse block, and then from THERE it can then go out to the various circuits. No wonder I was experiencing recurring voltage...
