Jetting suggestions for VM22s on 740 kit?

Hey Richard, I'm just seeing this. Grant and I will try to come out to Newark and pay you a visit this week, FYI. I see what you are trying to do, but you are best off running the 650E carbs. Was there something wrong with them? I take it you must not have held the vm22 carbs up to the 650...

    Boring-out 650 Cylinders

This exact same question comes up every few years.. same answer, see above. bigger engines, and even more importantly, the exhaust pipe spacing will not fit the frame. besides, the 650E has the most efficient combustion chamber, piston, and head design of any of the two valves per cylinder...

    Brake Caliper Swap?

Check into V-Strom DL1000 triples for mounting the Bandit 43mm forks. Have them measure the steering stem I'd, you should be looking at 7 or 7.25" between the two bearing surfaces, bottom to top, outside of the bearings. The 43mm fork DL1000 steering stem looks the same as a GSXR/Hayabusa...

    Brake Caliper Swap?

Also, VT1000F (VTR1000F?) Superhawk/Firestorm forks are 41mm cartridge forks & 775mm. Both are fantastic upgrades. The earlier version Bandit 1200 forks with the one piece fork brace mounting lugs are a bit more sporty valving than the later versions with a more conventional fender mount.

    Brake Caliper Swap?

So if you swapped a GSXR 750 front end on, why are you asking if Hayabusa calipers fit a GS 1100 or 1150? Shouldn't you be asking if they fit the GSXR 750? any of the opposed piston calipers are going to have trouble on the vintage wheels unless you have very wide forks (triple clamp spacing)...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Thanks Ed. So on the Z1 Enterprises website, I found this basic banjo thread pitch guide for "most Suzuki models" - this is relevant for brake upgrades, although with their year breakdowns, I highly doubt a 1989 vs 1994 vs 1998 GS500 caliper are going to be different sizes, same as other models...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

I thought I was being careful with the banjo ordering, as the photo showed what appeared to be what I needed, and the description did not say any dimensions that conflicted with the photo dimensions! The older Suzuki etc extra-fine m10-1.0 thread pitch double banjo is the stainless double banjo...

    '77 710...ish

Confusing title at first, I kept thinking of what size GS650 piston would make 710cc, or what you could do to destroke a 750! Then I saw the clutch cover linkage... Then the 710 started making sense! Not quite as talked about as the 7/11 swaps... A hyphen or backslash would make 710 (7-10 or...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

Apparently THIS is where I went wrong... I ordered based on the description and picture, which shows the taller height double banjo bolt spacing... BUT I got one that was the shorter .320" height spacing!!!!! DARNIT AN Plumbing for not making that clear! I ordered 2 (the other being the nickel...

    Earl's Brake Line Thread

So... the package arrived from AN Plumbing yesterday! BUT... Much to my dismay, the line sold by the foot that we received was bare stainless braided sheathing, no clear protective outer wrap on the hose... They showed line sold by the foot, and they showed line sold in 10 ft, 20ft etc lengths...

GS Road Trip Reliability? 2000 Miles or more?

Yes I can relate to all of the above! With my bike in a poor state of tune, pilot fuel screws off quite a bit when experimenting, I hit reserve at 100 miles, flipped petcock to reserve, bike still would not run, the plastic filter screen insert in the petcock had shrunken & all of my gas at...

GS Road Trip Reliability? 2000 Miles or more?

In the past, I've broken a clutch cable (always have spare clutch and throttle cable in my tail section trunk), had wife's ignition switch fail (bypassed temporarily), had plastic ignition switch connector crumble apart and short out inside headlight bucket (from a used ign switch we put in...

GS Road Trip Reliability? 2000 Miles or more?

My sole long road trip this year, from Ohio to Barber Vintage Festival (Birmingham, AL) & back, 600 miles each way "direct route," I stretched out to 9 days & 2500 miles of mostly mountain twisties riding on nearly all 2-lane through West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina & zig...

Piston Rings? Valves? Timing? All Three?

Yes your compression test was definitely biased because only one cylinder was wide open, unbeknownst to you! Low mileage engines still suffer from severe bore wear or sticking rings, sometimes people just run them out of oil and they run extremely hot and wear things out. other times, people...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

If shipping weren't so far, I'd be looking for a good spare 650 top end and carbs. But I'd urge you to stick with it & use the winter to get the bike freshened up & do the top end swap.

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

You give up easily! Putting a 650 top end on a chain drive 550, & basic brake and suspension modifications, good tires, & two tiny little frame braces welded in, and you have a top notch very fast & very agile vintage middleweight superbike candidate.. That tops most other bikes in this...

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

I posted a thumbnail/link above, but this is the tank I'm looking at buying. I have a 78 GS1000C that Joe Humbert sold me minus wheels, carbs, & airbox, & included a very smashed up 78 tank. I bought another 78 tank on ebay, rattle can exterior with only a few very minor little dings in it, but...

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

So one coukd differentiate a 79 vs 80 by measuring the petcock bolt hole spacing? But identifying an unknown tank - it could still be perhaps an incompatible GS1000G shafty model then? Are shafty gas caps all offset? Or are some centered? Any other ID pointers appreciated. Thanks for the help...

    '79 vs '80 GS1000 E/S/base-model gas tank differences?

Were the 79 vs 80 tanks the same otherwise? The GS850G & GS1000G don't bolt onto the GS1000 chain drive non-L models, do they? Is a GS1000G tank shorter in length than a chain drive E?
