A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'81 GS650G: Aftermarket oversize pistons hit head

That's all really unfortunate, I'm very sorry to hear all of this. The Honda CB 750 big bore kits that they sell, maybe even other CB models, are very popular and get great reviews for the long-term & short-term. Engine builders and machine shops have told owners that the pistons seem to be the...

'81 GS650G: Aftermarket oversize pistons hit head

Berti, do you have a good accurate set of calipers to measure the piston skirts on those? You might be able to drop in a set of these Wiseco 740 pistons into those bores. I "might" possibly be conviced to sell one of my 2 spare sets. I was holding onto one for a friend who didn't have the $ to...

'81 GS650G: Aftermarket oversize pistons hit head

So this isn't just a "stock photo" of a similar item... The dome design differences here is very plain to see, & CLEARLY will not work with the head designed to be used with the 650 piston... vs

'81 GS650G: Aftermarket oversize pistons hit head

Awww man that SUCKS! They basically sold you a hemi head's domed piston, nearly identical to the stock 77-79 GS750 piston... I would DEFINITELY be contacting them to complain, at least so they pull them and don't screw over anyone else... Unless perhaps they actually did mix up and send you...

Potential Group Purchase - Wiseco GS650 741cc pistons

I would DEFINITELY be contacting them to complain, at least so they pull them and don't screw over anyone else... Unless perhaps they actually did mix up and send you GS750...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

The western end of River Rd & it's junction with the Cherohala Skyway, Google Maps places a scenic marker pin on, calling it the beginning of the"Tellico River Gorge," by the way... https://maps.app.goo.gl/Suyp5efBwRDLGcWT9 (& a tip for our scenery / motorcycle interests, always toggle on the...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

Ahhhh yes...Wayah Rd! Go that direction! Also, I just remembered River Rd through Cherokee National Forest... This sort of runs parallel below the Cherohala Skyway down far below it (elevation) whereas the Cherohala is like a ridge running BRP type road but more wide open turns that you...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

One funny story about my bike tuning experiences at 5,000+ feet on the BRP... I changed engine configurations but did not spend much time rejetting my mains at home, 900 ft above sea level, before departing on my road trip... I noticed I was lacking in passing power on the BRP. I stepped down 2...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

I have hardly been on the BRP in Virginia, but I'm very familiar with how strict their traffic enforcement regulations are especially regarding offenses that motorcyclists can commit (SPEEDING!). I believe anything over 5 mph above the limit is considered Reckless Operation in Virginia. In Ohio...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

Sounds like a fantastic plan! I'm envious! If you have time towards the leisurely end of your trip, North Carolina 215 and US 276 criss crossing over the Blue Ridge Parkway like a really nice figure 8 loop. Also, if it is open when you are passing through, the cafe in Little Switzerland makes a...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

Yes that is the route that I was talking about with 226 and 226a... Rt 80 north of Rt 19E was also a top pick as of my past few trips down that way. 80 from 19E north to 226A near Bakersville. North a ways from Little Switzerland but not too far. If you have a reason to stray a little further...

BRP from Roanoke, VA to the Southern end at Cherokee, NC

The views from the BRP within an hour or so either side of Asheville are some of the best in the Eastern US without a doubt... Really starting just south of the Linville Gorge area if I recall? I don't quite have the patience for the low speed limits and occasional tourist/pirate party caravans...

    Rebuilding gauges

But what beam angle, 32?, or 90?? Or both? The 32? is a very focused beam for the indicator lights. I'm assuming the 90? beam might work better for the back lighting?

    Rebuilding gauges

All of my 77-80 GS guages have the BA9S type bulbs. I once researched here for a friend and had him order some of the 158 or 194 etc bulbs recommended, only to find that they absolutely were the wrong style! Live and learn.

Yoshimura style hand bent short exhaust gs 550

nothing wrong with the Marving, those are FANTASTIC exhausts and don't have the ground clearance problems that most 4 into 1 pipes have. performance should be the same as a standard for into one configuration. Making a Tri-Y 4 into 2 into 1 of that style would be rather complicated looking.

    550/650 upgrade/conversion

Suzuki_Don's build thread is difficult to search for also because the title is not for a build thread themed topic, it's the troubleshooting/aftermath of his first 550/673 build attempt where he was trying to troubleshoot a knocking noise... That ended with the discovery that the deck heights...

    550/650 upgrade/conversion

FYI look at the 650 frame (or 450, 750, 850, 1000, 1100) & weld on some frame spine bracing that those havebut the 400/425 & 550 are lacking, it'll make it handle way better. The braces behind the ignition coils.

    550/650 upgrade/conversion

Basically you just need a custom thicker base gasket or head 650 gasket, Use only GS550 or GS650E cam sprockets, 650G cam sprockets are not compatible with the chain drive cranks, & you need to clearance the cases for the 650 cylinder sleeves to fit. I built one but the engine is sitting on...

Yoshimura style hand bent short exhaust gs 550

Yes, Moto GP Werks are an AWESOME company... This is what I was recalling, Carpy sells these CB550 pipes, one of which was documented (on here?) of someone modifying it to fit their GS550...

Delkevic Exhaust - I just installed another set and the fit is awesome.

And FYI the Mac designs of at least the standard pipes are basically a spin-off from the old Kerker pipes, but there is a slight difference in the length of the collector tube section that differentiates Mac versus Kerker. And of course unfortunately the Kerker aluminum silencers are no longer...
