A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    82 GE1100E jetting, header & oval K&N pods

The square within a square is a Mikuni logo, they are OEM Mikuni jets. 170 is HUGE, stock is 107.5 or 115 depending on year. I only have a 135 in my 1260 dragbike.... Middle of the page is a picture of the stamp.. http://www.jetsrus.com/FAQs/FAQ_identify_that_jet.htm

    How often to replace Helmet

I always figure the new helmet is going to have advanced technology from what I bought 2 or 3 years ago, so that convinces me to buy when I find a good deal. I currently have a Bell Star I got for $200 off the $449 list price, and feel it was well worth it.

    Motorcycle Camping Advice

I will attest to Sandy's riding skills. But he is also smart enough to not ride point, allowing him to wave going past the guys with the flashing lights behind them....

Can anyone tell what ignition this is

Looks like a Dyna S to me... I have 3, they work as advertised. There are 2 different GS ones depending on the OEM and year, I think the rotating part is the difference

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

It was 79 degrees in the PNW today, so the only bike that started was of course the connie. Did the ton on my favorite deserted road.... This great view is 2 miles from home.

    Old Modified V&H clutch hub

I have 3 of those with varied amounts of wear in the splines in my spares pile, and one in a bike. They apparently were popular back in the day. The springs are improved over stock, they have really nice welding. The tabs serve much the same purpose an the thicker backing plate. If I needed a...

GS1100GK engine rattle at low revs

No one has mentioned the clutch basket? the GK has the same basket as the 1100e, they rattle all the time. First be sure the nut is tight, Then check for wear in the splines where the friction discs ride and loose\broken springs behind the basket.

Vintage, not fast enough for Track days?

It's not always the fastest vehicle that wins. I remember watching a Trans-Am race in the 70's. Lots of NASCAR guys there that day, lots of high horsepower american cars. And Paul Newman in a 240Z. He gained about a second a lap on the 2.5 mile 10 turn course, and with 2 or 3 laps to go came...

    Connector between stator and R&R

Stock was brass bullet connectors, male on Stator end. Like POSPlayr said, most solder and heat shrink the connections.

Blows main fuse when I turn on the key?

I had an intermittent fuse blowing on my 850. Finally tracked it down to a horn rotated just right so the hot terminal would contact the mount under the right wind or vibration conditions. Usually would blow both the headlight and main fuse.

    Indian FTR1200

I find this very intriguing. A 120HP <500lb V-twin that looks great. Big price tag, up there with Ducati. Limited range with a 3.4 gallon tank. But man does it look good..... https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/2019-indian-ftr-1200-and-ftr-1200-s-first-look

More modern cartridge fork options - retaining GS wheels & proper/revised geometry

The RF900R stem and triples will work with no modifications. If you want to use handlebars the Bandit upper fits with the addition of a hardware store bushing. IIRC the forks are considerably shorter.

Is this crack as soul-crushing as I think it is?

It was the previous owner! Honest.... Seriously, I have not dropped one since the 70's. But the new combination of a 700 pound bike and advancing age means the Connie will be going down at some point. Some combinations of angles, short legs, and stop signs have been really close. It makes a GS...

Do you recommend the Morgan Carbtune Pro?

Mercury is pretty much banned in any application now so not an option unless you can find an old one. https://www.epa.gov/mercury/environmental-laws-apply-mercury https://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/www/IMOP/publications/Flyers/Mercury_flyer.pdf Even though I remember playing with it in school....
