A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. Shock help please!

I have hagons on my 1K an progressives on my 650. The progressives are harsher for sure. I have matching fork Springs on both to complement. Take a hard look at hagons.

    Gs650g. Plugs

Torque plugs to between 11 and 15 lbs. There are enough threads where you can chase them and it should be ok.

Clueless electrical member testing R/R diode

The sense connection probably came off or had a weak connection, that's the reason it went to 17.

    Shock help please!

Hagons are better than progressives in my opinion. You forget they are even there and no bad surprises. Great handling and nice ride. And they are less expensive.

Caltric Stator-no coating on stator windings?

Well that's how it behaved. The insulation was not sticking to the windings, probably due to poor prep on the wire or the lacquer was thin.

Caltric Stator-no coating on stator windings?

If you r3move and decrease with alcohol you might be able to revarnish it. You need to make it dry and clean. I opted for another with epoxy coating, electrosport.

    Ascot.....

Owned an FT500 in 1984 new. They had problems with the starter drive gear, stripping. Not a fast bike on top end but very good low end torque. Real good brakes with a rear disk. People hop them up but the starter gear is a problem with higher compression ratios.

    Honda RR kits available again

There is a kill head light option on older bike. My 81 has a headlight switch. It has two poles, one for the headlight and the other for that third leg. If you went direct then all the switch does I'd control the headlight

Caltric Stator-no coating on stator windings?

The funny thing about the failure was when the bike sat for 4 days it would charge normally upon starting. As soon as enough oil worked it's way around it the charge went down. I knew it was a problem with insulation somewhere. I got 6 years out of my 80.00 so I was ok with it. Things happen.

Caltric Stator-no coating on stator windings?

Nope the coating came off easily. Looked like either the oil attacked it or the wire wasn't prepped before coating. I put an electrosport in because it had superior coating on the wire. The caltric wires were not extra dipped. It's in 220 degree oil so it needs protection. All the other stuff...

Caltric Stator-no coating on stator windings?

A caltric stator failed in my 650 because the lacquer came off the windings. The oil shorted it. I measured the resistance with it dry on the bench and when I poured oil on it a short developed.

Studs vs. bolts on exhaust header ?

Studs are easier to hang the pipe on . You won't crossbreed them either. I put locktite on mine so they don't back out with the nut.

    Honda RR kits available again

If you have the dreaded 2 piece system with separate regulator it's probably bad . The Honda RR replaces all that with one unit

Stripped oil drain thread, options? (new pan/tap/...)

The torque on the plug is a mere 7 foot pounds. I use a torque wrench on mine and I don't exceed 7 ft pds.

Rear Shock Spring Rates for GS1000G

I recommend Hagons. I have Progressives on the 650 and i prefer the hagons. You know you have good shocks when you don't need to think about how they work, they just perform well.

    Airbox boots

They can be replaced. I bought new ones. They are important and used to straighten airflow into the carbs. RTV turns to jelly in the presence of gasoline.
