If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Low Compression in 3 Cylinders 100 Miles After Rebuild

Maybe I won't buy them ahead of time, but keep a close eye on the valves and see if there's any plastic that comes off with it!

Low Compression in 3 Cylinders 100 Miles After Rebuild

I didn't do new rings, I measured the old ones withing spec. I was hoping that if it was an issue, I'd see bad compression right after reassembly. I did do new viton valve stem seals at the time as well. I'm wondering if those would be too damaged by removing the valves again to reuse.

Low Compression in 3 Cylinders 100 Miles After Rebuild

Hi yall, I bought this '79 750 after it had been sitting outside for 10+ years (according to the previous owner's son). When I got it it had 30-90psi compression that would go up to 60-120psi with a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder. I got it up to 120 psi in all 4 after doing a cylinder hone...

    Aftermarket start/killswitch

I took apart the left hand controls on my '79 and cleaned everything. It's pretty easy to do and could fix your problem - just be careful when taking apart any buttons as they all have springs that'll fly into the abyss if you let them. I haven't specifically done the right side/killswitch, but...

    '79 750 Fork Oil Level

I went down to 10w. It's definitely much better. I couldn't for the life of me remember where I heard 20 wt was a good replacement but then I realized it was in the clymer manual. I can only assume they meant if for folks riding two up or with lots of luggage

    '79 750 Fork Oil Level

Yep that's where I found the OE manual. The gurgling seems wrong but I guess if that's the only official literature then it must be ok?

    '79 750 Fork Oil Level

Hey yall I'm trying to figure out how much fork oil my bike needs. The service manual I found and the Clymer manual I bought both say 180ml, but it seems to me like that's not right? With the springs in and the forks fully extended I hear gurgling, so that means air is going through the passages...

"Where Do These Hoses Go" updated pics?

Alright I got around to bending up some brackets using metal coat hangers. I've attached the brackets to the back of the foot peg bolts and the muffler mount, so that they avoid the real master cylinder and brake light switch spring and terminate about half way between the muffler and the tire...

    1979 GS750 running problems

For a bench test you can hook up a longer fuel hose to drain into a clear cup and attach a syringe to the vacuum port. When you pull vacuum with the syringe it should flow just as quickly as on prime and stop when you disconnect the syringe (personally I don't ever push the stopped back in...

"Where Do These Hoses Go" updated pics?

Yeah I'm not seeing that on my 8V. I did figure out that the foot peg bolts are threaded all the way through, so I'm thinking I'll bend some wire and give them a good loop to thread through that's a little further from the exhaust and not in front of the rear wheel.

"Where Do These Hoses Go" updated pics?

Yeah... I doesn't seem like there's a great spot for them. It's either over the exhaust, near the chain, or in front of the tire. Am I wrong to be nervous about not having them on at all? Fuel leaking on an air cooled engine also seems like it could be trouble.

    1979 GS750 running problems

Did you go with a cheap aftermarket petcock? The $17 one I got had some gunk in it when I bought it. Maybe your "on" position got clogged? It'd be work taking it apart to check IMO. I'd also be nervous that stuff could've gotten into the carbs and while it sounds like your carbs aren't your...

"Where Do These Hoses Go" updated pics?

Where should the overflow tubes end up? If I remember right, they originally went back below the rear master cylinder, but looking there now it seems like that's awfully close to the exhaust for a fuel overflow! Any pics or advice is appreciated

Sweet build! What fork gaiters are those? I got a pair that doesn't quite fit right on my '79 750, and am having a hard time finding a replacement set.
