A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Battery Boiled Over

That's a good deal on a new one of the correct type and markings. Been picking up used ones for around $35 each from here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-Regulator-4012941-fits-Ranger-RZR-1000-800-570-Turbo-Ace-150/

    Left hand controls

More than likely it has a broken component inside that's now allowing it to do as you described. Not likely that you'll have success in fixing it if it's damaged. Lots of used parts out there. I'd check on ebay first or even post in the parts wanted section here on the GSR.

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Just reread that in found my error. Yep, sorry for the mistake. In fact the FH is a mosfet shunt regulator. Just meant that the FH physical form factor was the same as the SH775 with the same connectors and pinout. I'll correct it.

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Jim, please read what I wrote. I used both a shunt (FA) and a series (SH775) style R/Rs to test the system. One, the (SH775) was available but not installed yet and the other (shunt FH) is being replaced and was still mounted. Noted that the installation will be rather quick since no wiring...

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Just curious because I found that the shunt type regulator outputted 15V with no load but the series type showed 0V on the output. Never ran either on for more than a couple minutes with no load. I'm pretty sure the stator will show heat damage, as in brown and burnt. It is the original...

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

There was the problem. At 4k RPMs two of the legs read 2V but one leg read over 10V to ground. Using two R/R's (one series and one shunt) the charge voltage never exceeded 12.58v at any RPM. One a side note: What would a series (SH755) regulator read when not connected to any load? I know...

    78 GS750E "No Spark"

I would have hard wired (solder/crimp) the stator to the wire harness. No additional connectors between the stator and the R/R.

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

I knew that. It's been a year from the last time the oil was changed so I just figured I'd do it at the same time. Thanks for the help though.

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Just ordered the Caltric stator, gasket and an oil filter. Total $44.42 for everything and it was free shipping.

ughhh.. Looks like I'm in the market for a new stator

Was riding my 1982 GS850GL the other day and noticed that the turn signals would stop working when I'm at idle. Rev the engine and they started blinking again. Today I went through the electrical system and noticed that the battery voltage would only rise a little above 12.5V when I brought...

    SH775 Install Diagram

Just picked up a couple used ones just to have on hand for $35 each on ebay. Converted all my bikes to the SH775BA and have never had an issue. Yes, wire it into the original wire harness location and it's plug and play. On my 1982 GS850GL it mounted exactly where the old one was with no...

1100 ex, cam cap thread repair

Steve actually answered the question. The original screws are 6mm x 1mm thread pitch. Here's a link to a kit from O'Reilly's Auto Parts that gives the specs of the components contained in the kit. It says to use a 1/4" drill bit.

1100 ex, cam cap thread repair

The problem I've seen is that previous owners didn't use a torque wrench and have weakened to screws so they no longer can be torqued to standard. Replacing the cap screws would be a good option IMHO. In response to the poster that suggested using standard thread posts.... I would consider the...

    Catalytic converters on Katana 1100?

Actually narrow band O2 is like a single dot. In reality it's like only checking for a zero crossing at stoichiometric (14.7) A/F ratio. There's a little resolution near that crossing point but not much. WBO2 is the only way to go if tuning using O2. Much more linear through a wide A/F...

    Setting mixture screws

I wouldn't waste your time unless you're prepared to do a complete teardown, poke and dip. The passages in the pilot and enrichment circuits are very small and are the most prone to getting clogged. None of those passages can be cleaned without complete disassembly.

    jet needles, needle jets/emulsion tubes

Not sure that anyone is making new (OEM or aftermarket) emulsion tubes anymore. Haven't see new ones in quite some time. Needles can still be found though. You can try Jets R Us.com and see if they know of a source.

    jet needles, needle jets/emulsion tubes

Not sure where you could buy new needle jets (emulsion tubes) but the ones you're looking for are marked X-1 from Mikuni. I may have some used ones (still round) but I'd have to check. You may also want to consider picking up some replacement needles as well if the emulsion tubes are that far...

    Choke Kills Bike

2nd that. Very common for the passages in the float bowl to get clogged. Opening up the enrichment circuit with those clogged will only add air. A stiff fine wire poke along with some carb cleaning spray will usually open them back up. You should see a good stream of carb cleaner coming out...

    Oldie not newbie-Float bowls

Can you explain what you mean by "one bowl plumbed differently"? A little more detail would help. On the surface it sounds like you may have a mismatched set of carbs. The bowls should be interchangeable between carbs of the same set on a 1981 set of CV carbs.

80 GS1100 Carb leaking after storage. What type of fittings does the rack use?

Two outer fuel connectors use 4 o-rings each and the center T-connector does not use o-rings. Usually not a problem though. I'd go ahead and order a complete o-ring kit from cycleorings.com and be ready to do a complete rebuild. Might as well since you're going to have to de-gang the carbs to...
