A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Common electrical query

If the resistance in the circuit is high, the lamps may not flash on that one side. Check the connections and grounds first before condemning anything. Do the lamps have the same brilliance side to side? Did you do any bulb type substitution?

    GS 1000 '78, oil consumption

I don't see 67.6 to 135.2 oz of oil use per 620 miles driven in those cylinders. That's 1 oz of oil every 9.2 miles driven AT BEST. Plugs do not show the shine from oil usage either.

    Compression Test 0,0,0,0?

Bingo.... Exactly what I was going to suggest. OP, try putting your finger over the open hole and crank it over.

    GS 1000 '78, oil consumption

Without smoke? It's a gross engine oil leak. Fibreboard on the floor, bike on centerstand and fire the engine up.

    De-stinking Penelope

My intent is to place a wooden board on the head surface and a cheap valve cover over the upper portion. Right now the thought rolling around my head is using Walnut shells. Followed up with Phosphoric acid. ;) I still may do that with the cylinders. Trouble is finding someone to do the work...

    De-stinking Penelope

Chuck, I used a boat load if red scotch brites on the cases. I'll set to removing the broken stud and cleaning up the ports and combustion chambers then decide what to do with the exterior.

Vapor blasting? Clean it by hand? Dunno at this point. Damn mess it is. Onward she goes. Exhaust valve guides feel ok. Intakes feel a little loose. I'll measure them when I get it all cleaned up.

Oil with the best ant ifoaming prperties

Oil with the best ant ifoaming prperties

More to consider than anti-foam properties. There is also ZDDP protection, type of base-stocks used, additive packages, compatibility with seals ect. https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1252272 If were mine to decide, I would probably look into Redline...

    Alternative to the SH775 RR

The limiting factor is the stator. It is only capable of outputting so many watts. You can improve the R/R but it will do little to improve the output of the stator.

    SH775 wire gauge

Slide a piece of shrink tube over one wire, strip both wires, connect both wire together with a western union or an inline splice, straighten the connection, solder the joint, slide the shrink tube over the connection and apply heat.

    Turn signal control unit

If actuating both side turn signals at the same time, which is possible using this setup, the signals will flash faster because of the increased current draw of four lamps. The solution would be to replace the stock flasher with an electronic one. This would allow for LED bulbs to be used as...
