A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Motorcycle Camping Advice

Looking again at your trip map, the other thing to note is that you'll be travelling more miles than many of the periods for certain maintenance. Make sure you plan out when and where you'll do these in advance. Things like tires, tubes, chains/sprockets can be a tough thing to find in a town...

    GS550 Top End Refresh

Thanks all. Valves clearances have been regularly checked and adjusted and were in spec. We'll lap in the new valves and put in the new seals. Is there anything else to replace while the head is apart?

    Motorcycle Camping Advice

I camped every day going coast to coast and back on my GS - about 6 weeks. My biggest recommendation is to buy a Rand MacNally road atlas. We didn't have smart phones or internet access and literally used this atlas everyday to pick both roads and campgrounds, not including days where we stopped...

    GS550 Top End Refresh

My friend's 1977 GS550 was having trouble starting up towards the end of last season. We noticed that the engine was super easy to turn by hand on the kickstarter so I thought low compression. Pulled the plugs and 1 and 4 were both oil fowled and crusty. The cold compression was 1: ~80 2. ~110...

    Just Picked up a 1981 XS650

Well with a carb cleaning, new plugs, some fresh oil it and a new battery it fired up on the 5th kick and runs like a champ now :) I did find some aluminum shavings in the oil filter which I've heard comes from the cam chain being mal adjusted and rubbing a little. Apparently this is quite...

    Just Picked up a 1981 XS650

Dunked and cleaned the first carb and taking the other out tonight. I like this shot showing how blocked some of the airways were: Just waiting on some new float bowl gaskets: I also found this half moon gasket half blocking one of the oil passages...yikes. Going to just make sure there's...

    Just Picked up a 1981 XS650

Hasn't run in a few years. The guy I got it from said that it started bogging down and then would hardly idle the following spring. I took the carbs off when I got it home and they're SO dirty and are currently soaking in the carb bucket. I'm really excited to pull them out tonight to clean hah...

    tips for winter

Fuel stabilizer is mostly useful if you're not going to be regularly adding fresh gas to the system. If you're going to be riding regularly, just fill it up as you regularly would. The stabilizer shouldn't negatively affect running as it goes through the system.

GS750 with Boyer Ignition - keeps cutting out

This started happening to my GS750 after I installed a Dyna ignition and coils. Runs great otherwise but I've been wondering why it did this ever since...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

It's a new lens made for my (digital) camera but old school in the sense that it's prime meaning no zoom. It has autofocus but also a manual focus ring. Huge improvement from the kit lens and I wish I had done this a year ago! Hadn't even thought to do that hah! I use flickr quite a bit so the...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I haven't looked into it a ton yet but I believe so, yes. I hate to fall into their ploy but am probably going to end up buying it. Half of the reason being so that I can keep posting pictures on here and be able to find pictures easily and remotely. Either that or until then I'll just be...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Here's mine! These are the first bike pictures I've taken with the 35mm f1.8 lens I got last week for my a6000 and am really happy with the results. Also I just got the notice from flickr that they're capping the free option with 1000 pictures. Going to have to pay $3.54 a month now...

Looking to upgrade to better forks on my 82' GS450T

I put progressive springs in the the forks on my GS450. It really stiffened up the front and significantly improved the handling. Mine were ~$85 from a member here (they were new, though). That would definitely be the most effective, hassle free and cost efficient upgrade.

    What do you think?.

Looks like it's in good shape and a reasonable trade but the GS750 is cooler
