A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Here's a few from the past month or so. I've gone on a couple of camping trips on my GS750 and done a bunch of riding with my buddy with a 1977 GS550. Representing the GS at a motorcycle night here in Boston: In other news, I came home yesterday to find my GS750 on it's side on...

    Restoring a 1977 GS750

Sweet! I think all the time about tearing my 1977 GS750 down for a modest rebuild. For now, though, I've been having too much fun riding it!

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

No - I did about 250 miles on that last day to get home, at the beginning of which is when I noticed the oil light flashing and then topped it off. I had changed the oil/filter at the end of last year and can't actually remember checking since then to see the level. It could just be that it's...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

This is really more of a "multi - day" ride but I didn't feel the need to create a whole new thread. I took yesterday off work and went for a weekend trip Saturday through Monday. Started off in Boston and went all the way across MA and then north up Rt 7 up to Burlington Vt where I stayed at a...

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

No worries! I wish I had brought more film! And maybe an extra tube... A warming sleeping bag would have been nice, too - but that takes up more space so nevermind.

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

Yup stock engines. The spark plugs were never totally fouled from the altitude alone and I was happy to just replace them for ~$10 as we obviously didn't have constant access to other tools. 6k for chain/sprockets is definitely a short lifespan - we had bought cheap-o chains and also have since...

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

Thanks! On my GS750 I had to replace: - Rear tire when we got to Oregon (~5-6,000 miles) - Several oil changes - Chain in Washington state (~6,000 miles) along with front and rear sprockets. The chain and rear sprocket were both toast. - A few sets of spark plugs. We were riding through the...

1983 GS850GL Rear Shocks replacement -- How much $$ is too much ?

I did the Sonic springs last year and the Hagons from Dave Quinn a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't be happier!

Tank mounting rubber parts. Guy kinda stranded in Detroit area.

I really think that we should all be helping each other out to the best of our ability, but also don't think it's really fair to come up with a half thought through plan and then rely on others to fill in the gaps. I can imagine that it's a hard situation to be in if the bike wasn't in the...

    1980 GS450 Carb query

On the GS450 the nipple that holds the vaccum line going to the petcock can be pulled out with finger-strength and does sit underneath the screw on the left side. If it is missing you will certainly have an air leak and be missing out on the vacuum operation of the petcock. Here's what it looks...

Turn Signals Weak Until Throttle is Blipped

    New GS750

Thought I would just update to share upgrades to my GS750 since I bought it. All with the help of GSR :). Overall, I LOVE this bike! Runs great and would take it across the country (again) tomorrow if I had to. - Hagon rear shocks and Sonic Fork Springs - Dyna DS3-1 ignition and Dyna Green...

Turn Signals Weak Until Throttle is Blipped

It does sound like the charging system is not quite up to speed. Of course getting some good data like Posplayr suggested is a good idea once you have the bike but typically the things to look out for/replace are: 1. Bad connections/corrosion around terminals 2. Grounding points - There are a...

Bicycling from CA. to MI. to pick up my 1982' GS450T then drive it back to CA.

Everybody on here will advise against using an e-z out for the exhaust stud. I have experience snapping off more than one of these in an engine (including quite recently in an oil filter cover stud) and it's not fun. Try drilling it out with left handed bits or welding a nut on, if possible.

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

At the time I wrote down where we ended up at the end of each day and pretty regularly have my odometer readings, too, as well as some random notes, postcards, trinkets, etc. I have quite a lot of pictures documenting things pretty well but there are a few gaps in the timeline from just looking...

Cost to Coast ... to Coast on 1977 GS750 and GS550

Day 22 - 27 We woke up and packed up. Bobby had slept in the tent for I think the first time that night instead of his hammock, and I had strung my hammock up on my motorcycle underneath a tarp so that I could use the bug net. Leaving Yosemite took a long time. We got rained on and there was...

    Making a wiring harness - 1982 Gs 400 L

If you think you're up for it, I say do it. I learned a ton when I made a harness for my GS450. My advice: - Get a couple of the kits from http://vintageconnections.com - it looks like they just updated the website which is nice. I got the regular bullet connector kit as well as a latching...
