A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Tuning 1979 GS550 Straight Pipes and Pods

Search " air correctors " if using VM24's round slides. If not let us know. I installed these on my VM26's when I had serious accelleration issues after modifying my air box and exhaust installed on my GS1000 engine. It affects all VM series carbs with exhaust/air box mods. Some worse than...

    1980 GS 750L Front Forks

If my memory serves me correct ( I know LOL ) your fork diameter is 24mm - this number will help when searching out other options. I have looked at installing 1100 suspension on the front of my stock 77 GS750 - I have x2 750's - aside from the dual disc brakes I haven't seen any other reason to...

In the market for a used GS1000 or 1100

I have a '78 GS1000 8V engine in a '77 GS750 frame that is for sale when people ask about it or I talk about it - hey I like to ride LOL. It sits just like this except the rear shocks, mirrors, grips and battery have been replaced within the last 200 miles.. it'll be 300-ish next week as I'm...

    cruzin image gaskets?

You know that you can get brake shoes relined. When I've used cheap gaskets, and I have used many, i find that the valve cover gaskets are crap and don't seal worth a oh look a cookie... They work well at first but then start to seep. Check bolts and then you realize... RTV isn't a good...

    clutch grabbing and shaky riding

Consider checking free play when it gets "hot" or as Rob S. said, consider an oil cooler. When you replaced your clutch pack, did you: Use a brand name? verify that all the steels were flat and of the same? i.e. not miss matched. verify no notches in the clutch basket fingers - not sure if...

    1979 gs stator question

Five wire stators are common on the - i'm guessing here, the early 8v engines. the extra wires aren't important and really shouldn't be used. The extra wires on mine went to the lighting circuit and the shunt - the little box under the battery not the rectifier. The shunt could also be tied...

To Seafoam or not to Seafoam

I'm a firm believer in both Seafoam and Lucas. However, niether of these will fix a damage rubber part or stuck float - a dirty jet will not make fuel squirt anywhere.

Spark plugs with resistors for these GS series bikes?

I don't run any resistor. I have after market electronic ignition, 4.3ohm coils, 90 degree boots and stock plugs gapped at .030 - no issues with this set up. Pulls hard into triple digit speeds. I've run several other set ups without resistors and no issues as well. Both 77 GS750 and 78 GS...

    clutch grabbing and shaky riding

You should have a minimum 1/16" play at the clutch lever. I like about an 1/8th - although I don't remember which bike you have so you'll need to follow the proper clutch adjustment found in the FSM ( field service manual ) The early 750 engine has a trivial clutch adjustment procedure and I've...

    1981 GS 650 Carb Compatibility

All 16v small bore engines should run the same 32mm Mikuni carbs - internals are the only thing that change - jetting, needles and such. My memory is vague here as I haven dealt much with the 16v engines.

what fails next, after the fuse?

Purchase a 12v test light and a decent DVOM. The early GS750's 77-79 only had a single glass barrel fuse. You should replace with a blade type. If you're blowing head light bulbs - CHECK your charging system as I bet it's over-charging - about 15.5 volts (? or close) will blow those old style...

GS750B won't downshift when hot. Oil, springs, swell, shift forks?

My issues where based on - shifting issues up or down - neutral hard to find or not at all without killing the engine - which caused issues adjusting the cable for proper free play. With my '77 750B ( both my '77 GS750 and '78 GS1000 engines in my 750 frame ) when I have the issue you're...

Extra holes drilled into the stock GS650 exhaust pipe

I should have x2 mufflers you can have (read: free) if you're willing to pay shipping (read: not free)... Mine are off of a 77 GS550 so you'll want to verify fitment. I have the full exhaust system if interested. This should fix your holes

    Battery amp lesson help

There are many servicable batteries available and most auto parts stores sell the liquid. If you need to top off, only add distilled water. Is it recommended - only if you're cheap :-) I don't renew batteries like this as I buy AGM style but I do know locals that do. As for the triples, you...

    Battery amp lesson help

Actually, you can hook up the DVOM and watch it while you hit the crank button. The below information is based on a good battery charge with the battery at or around 12.5 volts - aka: static voltage. A long SLOW and LOW charge is always recommened before testing. If it drops under 10.5 volts you...

    Power to coils

If the coil has 9.5 volts then the whole system has this same voltage. Check battery with the key on and verify voltages. If even at 9.5v your battery is weak. This doesn't explain the loss of voltage at the other coil. The power for both coils comes from the same wire. It just splits inside...
