A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Aluminum re-finishing.

I've been using these interleaf flap wheels to re-finish the old coatings and corrosion on my bikes aluminum. It works quickly and doesn't leave behind a lot of scratch marks in spite of being 80 grit, the scotchbrite between the sandpaper softens it up. Then I use my favorite aluminum polish by...

    niche front rotors Q?

Here are the niche rotors, on the left side the hub to rotor spools lightly touch something on the inside of the piston side of the calpier. I'm going to sand it down a tad after I check to be sure it's seated right. I polished the forks with an interleaf sanding wheel, 80 grit sounds like a lot...

    Fork service.

1981 GS1100EX I've removed the front wheel and begin polishing the forks, The left one is pretty much stripped and looking pretty good, I replaced the pulsing rotors with new Niche rotors which I'll check for run-out and have noticed the forks are a bit notchy. I checked partzilla and didn't...

    GS1000S tripmeter won’t reset?

I bought an 81 1100E, it would not reset except on a rare occasion, I bought a different gauge cluster, it would not re-set either. I sprayed some WD 40 in from behind, and while trying to turn the numbers with my finger something went snap and now it works. I got it further apart and cleaned...

    Pic of the week game

I'm new to the party but I'll try a late cold pic, my GS the first time out after a long (4 to 10 years depending who he was telling) nap in a garage.

    81 GSX 1100 sidecover emblems

I think it had something to do with the Buick Grand National GSX a few years earlier. Buick may have still had a copyright.

Suggestions for route to the tail of the dragon

I haven't ridden there yet but I think I59 will get you to the Cherohala Skyway which is on the way, it will get you to Maggi Valley, that's near the Dragon and there are a few Motorcycle routes near there, I read it was built as a scenic route.

    niche front rotors Q?

After a long ride two weeks ago with the warped rotors I just ordered a pair of Niche rotors. I got the Suzuki part number from partzilla, searched it and ordered what I could find. I've noticed in the old motorcycle parts world a lot of supply sources are drying up so I rolled the dice on a...

    81 GSX 1100 sidecover emblems

I saw a set of European GS1100 sidecover emblems, they have the GSX in big letters with the DOHC 16 valves above and 1100 below. About $42 each from OZ but for some reason they look cool to me. Hardly a noticable difference to a non-Suzuki guy and would end up around a C note to get them here...

    Making seat foams

I read that saran wrap makes a suitable wrapper for the part to be molded into a form. Painters wrap is self adhesive and strips of that might work also, there's a pourable foam that is used to make molds for injection molding parts, the guy at FB-stuff.com makes Honda sidecovers that way. He...

Awesome I'll be watching along to see how it goes.

    Making seat foams

I'm just not aware of an open cell or closed cell foam that you can pour that acts like seat foam. Most of it sets hard.

    Making seat foams

I'd think that will cure hard, it might be good for the mold, but I don't know what the seat foam is made of. I'd be more inclined to sculpt it from layers of different densities of upholstery foam. I cut down a large double bucket seat into a shape that fit a stock cover. I used an electric...

    Fairing?

I've been searching for a picture of a rectangle headlight 81 GS 1100E with a Meier fairing 005000. I haven't found a picture of one anywhere, I'm wondering how the low turn signals line up with the fairing's cutouts. The ones with the round headlights posted here look good to me.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I took the GS on a tour of a couple local counties through former strip mined areas, hit my favorite old Mom and Pop bike shop, and visited a friend who wasn't home.

E10, Phase Separation, and Water in the Fuel Tank

I have a couple bikes that don't get a lot of miles, I started draining them through the petcock and a filter, and burning the old gas in my lawn tractor. It doesn't seem to mind and it needs fuel anyway. I have also allegedly purchased LL110 av gas, that stuff lasts for years. The legality for...

    Tuning with an air/fuel meter.

Today I put 80 highway miles on the GS1100 with the air/fuel meter working, it was around 68 degrees F and a nice ride. The most often observed cruising ratio at most speeds was around 12-1, when I turned into a 3/4 headwind it leaned to around 12.4-1 This is with the 36 flatslide Mikunis and...
