A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 GS850G fuel tank looks like a sewer pipe

I've used vinegar and Evaporust in the past with good success, and one of my tanks sat with gas in it for 23 years. Once you get down to metal the electrolysis will be more effective.

Front Turn Signal Wiring 1982 GS1100E ?? Color coded wires?

That's a good way of doing it chuck, I've used pigtails from front car lenses at the junkyard to go dual filament in the past as well, and I agree about more lights in the back (and front) being a good thing. I have red LED's in my daily riders just in case but a couple of my bikes have had...

Front Turn Signal Wiring 1982 GS1100E ?? Color coded wires?

Not to stir the mud or add confusion, this is technically true (and chuck, you've helped me many times so please don't take this as me trying to "one up" you by any means) but you cand use the existing single filament sockets and wire them up to be hot at all times to serve as running lights and...

    Question about 2k clearcoat

Curious about this as well, and the fender and forks/fork boots (some call them gators) too. Is that the fender you got from a friend's 650/1100 and/or how did you modify it? Stock forks, from the looks of it, but where did you get the boots?

    Suddenly dead ignition

Suzukiosis?! That's a good one, and I surely have it! Your logic and reasoning is sound and I've had this happen before on both bikes and cars where you have voltage for lights etc, but not enough current to crank the starter, all because the lugs on the battery terminals were not tight enough...

    Suddenly dead ignition

Good to hear it was something simple! It's often the little things that we overlook, been guilty of stuff like this myself. I sometimes have to remind myself to start with the simple stuff first. You should trickle charger battery overnight and do the Quick Charging Test. Search for it in...

Please look..were my Carbs ultrasonicaly cleaned or not?

I would say if the bottom of the float bowl has that much gunk in it, either the bowls weren't sonically cleaned or at least not very well and I would question if the bodies were personally. When I sonically clean them, they come out quite shiny, there can still be a little tarnish on them but...

    Suddenly dead ignition

I carry a small tool set, test light or meter, some spare fuses and a bit of wire on my main bikes. Often times a kind stranger will offer to help push or jumpstart the bike but make sure you don't have the car you're jumpstarting from running. Once you go over and know the wiring diagram, it...

This bike is as old as I am!

Welcome, and thanks for posting pictures, we like those here. Read up, search and I'd recommend you use the Clymer for purposes other than working on this bike. Use it as a reference at best...For some bikes, it's fine or pretty much all there is. But for others, like the GS, there are factory...

Dumbass Move by Me......dropped washer in crankcase.

All good tips here, the other thing you might consider is to get one of those cheap USB micro inspection snake cameras like the one I got below to get the a bolt out of a cylinder once. A good tool to have anyway to check cylinder bores, valve faces, wiring or the duct work in your house and the...

    HF blasting cabinet

Yes, thanks for the warning, I blasted a whole bunch of parts last year in this same cabinet with the glass beads and the fine dust eventually made its way out of the cabinet (and the glass gave the piece film glass sticker cover a matte finish!) I'm now using the shop vac and it helps quite a...

    Drew's 850 L Restoration

Curious what others have done for this as well. I use simple green on a rag to clean up a grimey or sticky harness and re-wrap loose sections or sections I opened for testing or splicing with https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CTUW99Y/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_c-kywb66WW8EN...

    '77 GS 750 Carb Problems

I'm hoping your mechanic isn't just trying to make a few bucks. As stated some parts get stuck, but I'll second that with the proper tools, parts, patience and heat or even a dremel if needed, almost all carbs can be cleaned and perform as new. $175 to rebuild your carbs vs. $7-800 to go "new"...
