A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Any interest in an actual performance 4-1 exhaust for GS1100E?

Price is not going to set well with this crowd. Needing additional welding is a downer as well. Mild steel means painting and rust.

'82 GS 650- What carbs work??

The others will have the incorrect main air jet and the main air jet is not replaceable. The 650 used 2mm main air jets while the others used smaller jets. You can drill them out to 2mm but you'll also have to replace most of the other jets as well. You'll also have an issue with carb...

Indicator bulbs and the dominoe effect - 79 Gs850

The 3 stator wires should go straight to the SH775 R/R inputs and not go through the harness at all. The + output from the R/R should go to the red wire that the old R/R went to and the ground connection can go straight to the battery minus terminal.

Indicator bulbs and the dominoe effect - 79 Gs850

Check all your connections from the stator to the R/R. Verify your voltage output directly at the R/R red and black wires. Check your stator output with the R/R disconnected. At 5K rpm, it would be near 80V AC between each leg.

Indicator bulbs and the dominoe effect - 79 Gs850

All incandescent bulbs will show continuity or near a zero ohm reading. Perfectly normal. Look elsewhere for the problem. When you say it's not getting to full charge, exactly how are you determining this?

Dumb question time - why do we GS'ers need a vacuum petcock?

Wrong. The worst thing that can happen with a damaged diaphragm is fuel being sucked in while running. No full crankase or hydrolock issues. When off, the fuel is blocked from free flowing into the vacuum port. The problem you're describing is typical if you leave any manual petcock on or leave...

    Gotz me a Star

We need to hook up on some of these deals you run across. I come down to FL every couple months and can easily bring my trailer. Let me know if you spot a good deal and maybe we both can make a few $$$ out of the deal.;)

Dumb question time - why do we GS'ers need a vacuum petcock?

The problem is that a 30 year old petcock fails.;) Seriously, these petcocks don't fail for many years. Don't look at common problems today as being a problem with the original system or part. After 30+ years I had certain parts fail myself.;)

Dumb question time - why do we GS'ers need a vacuum petcock?

Because Suzuki thought ahead and realized that the danger of a flooded engine would be easily averted by using a vacuum controlled petcock. You just had the very same problem they made the fix for.

    Idiotic mistake

The stock vacuum unit is good for 30+ years. Pick up a new one and be done with it. Partzilla has them for a reasonable price: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/suzuki/SP-44300-49572.html

    Idiotic mistake

2nd the riding within a minute. These bike being cold blooded is simply a lack of proper adjustment/maintenance. Neither my GS850 or my GS1000 are cold blooded. Personally, I would scrap the Pingle valve. I hate the idea of forgetting to turn off the valve each time. I'm just too forgetful...

    Ignition systems for gs850 gx

Connectors are always first on the suspicion list. Check all of your connectors from the signal generator to the coils. Make sure all connections are clean and tight. I'm betting that there is no need for an igniter replacement in your case.

    Ignition systems for gs850 gx

The Dyna S is a proven system that works great. Haven't seen too many issues with the stock igniter either. The Dyna will provide you with a hotter spark. Especially if you use the Dyna coils. You should be able to reuse your advance mechanism if your bike is a GS850GX which should be a 1981 model.
