A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Brake lever hiting delkevic 4 into 1

Glad I could help. Sometimes it's the easy answers that are the more obscure.

Brake lever hiting delkevic 4 into 1

You can grind 1/4" off the bottom of the lever. That should give you the clearance without weakening the lever much.

    79 gs850 popping

You definitely need to fix the carb #3 rich problem. Could be a float related problem. Check the fuel level in each bowl to verify whether it's leaking or not.

    carbtune

Got it. Mistaken because this thread started out as just the Carbtune price.

Bizarre, funky issue when rolling up to a stoplight

Agreed with Steve here. Anyone owning a 38 year old bike MUST either work on their own or have a ton of $$$ to throw at a mechanic. Finding one to work on these bikes is a whole nother matter. Learning to work on these guys is half the fun.

    carbtune

Not sure where you're getting your pricing from but I just checked and it's still ?68 British pounds and ?5 pounds for shipping to the US so a total of ?73 British pounds. At todays exchange rate, that comes to $96.42 for the 4 col + tool pouch. Maybe you had 2 in your shopping cart.

    Blocked orifice in bowls

I dip and ultra sonic clean my carb sets and sometimes that passage still needs to get poked through. I have a wire brush that I clip a needle off and use that to poke through. Once it does it flows nicely with carb cleaner pushed through.

Confirmation of diagnosis on GS1100E charging system

I'd go with an SH775 regulator. The Compufires are over priced. You can pick up a good used SH775 for around $40. They almost never fail so buying used is not an issue.

    1980 gs850l petcock

Not enough room under there. That's why Suzuki used that type of petcock. They work just fine though.

12 volt fuel shut off valves? Because.. that gawd awful vacuum petcock

Trust me... If a new stock petcock was failing at any rate we would be hearing about it. As for poor functionality... WTH are you talking about? They worked pretty good for years when new. Don't be confused with horror stories after 30 years of use compared to when new. As for liking to mod...

    GS1100 runs out of fuel

Might also be the gas cap is not venting properly. Next time it happens, quickly open the gas cap and see if you hear a vacuum sound. If so, try riding it without the gas cap installed.

12 volt fuel shut off valves? Because.. that gawd awful vacuum petcock

Rebuilds are unreliable. Get a new petcock and be good for another 30 years. The stock petcocks don't fail when new.

    1980 gs850l petcock

The stock petcock (PN 44300-47270) is still available from Suzuki.

    '81 850GLX Gear Indicator

Was the indicator switch every removed or replaced? Original indicator lights? Not sure how but it's possible that the switch is clocked wrong.
  15. JTGS850GL

    '81 850GLX Gear Indicator

Looks to me like the wires are simply going to the wrong indicator. They're going in sequence but are always 3 indications off. 1=4 and 2=5. What happens in gears 3, 4 and 5? You mentioned that you now have a new harness. Is it a stock harness or one that's been custom made?

just nabbed a mint 99 marauder. stock pipes are WAY to quiet

Actually, in some districts, there are ordinances against noise and specifically against loud exhausts. With that said, you may find the best solution is to keep your stock pipes intact and find a set of aftermarket pipes. Most are a little louder than stock. That way you can sell your stock...

New (Old) Bike check list. What I do after purchasing a used bike.

Go here http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/ and learn all you can about the bike. Assuming it's a GS of course. Then go to the bottom of my sig and click on the Greetings link.

    '81 850GLX Gear Indicator

Not likely a mechanical issue. The gear indicator switch is a circular contact with the gears in sequence. All the gear indicators go through one connector except the neutral switch. It goes through a separate wire and terminates in a bullet connector. I'd pull the switch and verify that it...

Possible new twist on rust in the gas tanks solution?

Can you get the Evapo-Rust? We can get it ad Walmart here. Works absolutely great.
  20. JTGS850GL

Does a good gas tank need to be sealed

Just make sure that you keep it full of fuel or coat it with some WD40 if it's not going to be used right away.
