A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Suzuki head gasket no longer available, what is the best aftermarket gasket maker?

Sounds like stem seals. You can replace them without taking the head off. If you remove the exhaust headers you can get a look at the valves and see if oil is leaking down. If the head gasket and base are not leaking I would be slow to tear into a full rebuild.

    Just bought A Beemer

I saw that and didn't he say something about that being a recipe for 7 1/2? I use a mix of 10W40 and ATF for the GS forks and work on the principle that the thinner has a disproportionate effect on the result in the ratio of about 2:1

Thanks for that link. Do you recall what the seal size is and what did you fill it with?

    Just bought A Beemer

Got an R1100R a few months back. Even though I had experience with an R100RT this is a very different ride. Downshift with care, at least not like the GS850G and it's not as flexible at low speeds in high gears and I miss the gear position indicator. In spite of the torque I find myself shifting...

    Single Point Ground / SH775

We have talked the SPG concept to death here. Some notice no difference between it and the factory concept. The R/R outputs about 14 Volts and with any luck that's what your lights, ignitor, coils etc will see. However if there are voltage losses on the return wires such as frame connections and...

    Single Point Ground / SH775

My 2c The R/R is what runs the bike. It needs to know what the system voltage is. Roundabout return paths like using the frame has the potential to fool the R/R by losing a volt or two resulting in lower effective supply voltage to the system. All earth/ground wires go directly to the R/R ground...

what did you wrench on today??

Doesn't really surprise me. It can depend on who you get talking to. Not all of them know what is gathering dust in dark corners under their noses. Anyone fancy volunteering to help your local dealer out on stock taking day ? Finders fee ? :)

does bad starter relay = no lights/power when key is on? where am I going wrong?

Have you got a meter? The red wire at the ign switch should have power permanently. When the switch is ON , power is fed back to the fuse box, orange wire, to the other three circuits. Check for voltage at both sides of the main fuse, fourth from top. Check again at the red wire at the ign...

Attrition in available tires for 1000G What is recommeded now?

On the 850, I've used Continental TKV 11 & 12 front and back and Conti-Go on the back. 100/90/19 and 130 on the back. No issues. Got about 7000 on the back and twice that on the front.

does bad starter relay = no lights/power when key is on? where am I going wrong?

If turning the key repeatedly changes things then the ign switch internals are the most likely suspect. Dismantling and cleaning is a fairly straight forward job. While you are in switch cleaning mode check the internals of the kill switch as well. It could be taking volts from your coil supply...

Gsx250e regulator bogs down bike issue

At that price I can see the attraction. I got my 775 from a local Polaris dealer before the prices went crazy. At the time I suspected the old R/R had fried my stator but as it turned out someone had wired it up inside the generator cover with bullet connectors and two of the phase wires had...

Gsx250e regulator bogs down bike issue

Is that a lead acid battery? 13 Volts resting looks more like a gel type? Have you measured the + and - drops between the regulator output and batt + and reg earth and batt - ? You could charge the battery, disconnect the regulator and run for a few miles and see what happens. The battery should...

what did you wrench on today??

Speaking of which. My 96 R1100R had a surging issue at low throttle. The cable goes to the left and a second runs over to the right which has the single TPS. The link cable stretches and you need to re-balance. There is a lot of advice about the balancing procedure involving temperatures, fans...

    Irish Road Racing Under Threat

Some or all of those perhaps. Only certain thing is you never get the full story in proper context. In fairness to the insurance industry, it must be difficult calculating odds when there is no line in the sand when courts get to thinking about things like duty of care and reasonably foreseeable...

    Irish Road Racing Under Threat

Bookies in suits is all they are...... A while back the annual steam thrashing festival was faced with a similar problem. The machines were deemed too dangerous. They went ahead on the traditional site without the main attraction but by a curious co-incinence the neighbouring farmer offered free...

    Factory sealant gone???

I would. As Nessism said a bit of JB just in case they ever lose the fit.

    Factory sealant gone???

The top one looks to have marks left when the casting was cleaned up. Could they be plugs in casting cores?

    Informative video on motorcycle oil

Yes. It's one thing to be happy with twenty year old opinion about forty year old machines but quite another to drag that forward into a rapidly changing environment of engine design and fuel composition.
