A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How to keep engine rubber parts in good condition?

All of that chemical stuff is way over my pay grade, but the boots I did a year or so ago with 50 / 50 mix of Wintergreen Oil and Xylene are still doing well. Still soft and supple, carbs went in and out yesterday with no problems. They don't smell any better or worse than any other old rubber...

How to keep engine rubber parts in good condition?

Go easy on the stuff. Don't leave them in it too long. The rubber parts will swell up much bigger than they should be, but in a few days they will shrink back down to the correct size, and they will remain soft.

Oil leak on GS750. Concern or no?

Sure, could be anything. Except the timing chain housing.

    GS400 compression

Compression, usually if there's low compression it's because the valves are too tight. For $300 you can't go wrong if it's complete and more or less running.

Oil leak on GS750. Concern or no?

That stuff is super easy to fix, tach drive or cam chain tensioner, could be a couple other very easy fixes, or worse case it could need a new head gasket. Still fairly easy and not too expensive to fix. The only way to tell where it's leaking from is to clean it all up and see where it leaks...

    1980 gs250 t restoration after sitting 31 years

Another early step, is to take a good hard think about how much time and effort you want to put into a bike that's worth maybe about $1000 in pristine condition. The same amount of time effort and resources will be worth something in a bigger bike. I love the riding little guys, but a rust...

    Dynajet or not....

Mikuni parts have a symbol stamped on them, like a little square inside the corner of a bigger square. Then a part number like 5D50 or something similar. Not sure that's correct for your 850 because I still don't know which year you have, but it might be.

    Dynajet or not....

In some countries the CV carbs came with slotted needles in some years of 850.... Give us a clue?

    gs 550 swing arm to a gs1000

I looked a while ago, an aluminum GS1100E swingarm. It looks like it would work, but would need a spacer around the pivot shaft, or a bigger hole in the 550 frame, and the swingarm would be longer and wider at the rear. If you shortened it on the angled part about halfway back it would bring...

Checking fuel level - with water??

I think Sailorman needs to read the Suzuki Service manual section about setting float heights and checking fuel levels. Setting them you do dry, with the carbs upside down, checking the fuel levels with the hose you do with the engine running. I set the float heights any time they are opened...

Checking fuel level - with water??

The hardest part will be keeping the engine running on water. But if you figure that one out you will soon be rich enough to buy a band new Ducati every day instead of sinking around with old worn out motorcycles. Other than that, water is heavier than gasoline, the float will float higher in...

78 GS550 Blowing fuel vapour back out carbs.

Adjust the valves as described in the Suzuki Service Manual, not Haynes or Chiton's, they have it wrong. When you lapped the valves you made the clearances even tighter, but they tend to get tighter with mileage anyway. Running them too tight will burn them.
