A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Stuck Stubborn Jets/Screws ... SUCCESS

I had great success today where I normally struggle removing stubborn jets/screws. I thought I'd share it with those out there that are trying to strip and rebuild a set of carbs. Maybe it will work for you too. Over the past ten years I've overhauled about two dozen sets of GS carbs, maybe...

    Engine Compression Testing

Great advice from everyone ... thanks a million (Canadian dollars :)) I have two engines and they're both believed to have a round 35K KM on them according to the odometers they came with so I am "hopeful" they've not been driven hard or mistreated. I'll start with the valve clearances and...

    Engine Compression Testing

I am restoring an 82 GS650G and I have two engines on hand that I can use on the build. I need to assess the "health" of these two engines currently on engine stands (not in a bike frame) to see which is the better of the two to use in the build. What is the best way to test the compression...

    Won?t Start GS550T 😕

All good now, took it in for a balancing at the local MC Repair shop GForce in Kamloops - Garth did a great job putting everything right and answered my questions on syncin/balancing the carbs. Amazing to think the bike is 40 years old now. Bought the same model in 1981 new way back when 😁...

    Won?t Start GS550T 😕

Ok ... some success and learning all at once .... I adjusted the pilot screws to two turns out and as outlined below by Nessism this had no impact. Next, after scratching my head for five minutes starring at the bike I realized that perhaps I had incorrectly adjusted the...

    Won?t Start GS550T 😕

About 7 year or so ago I had new boots put on by a guy before I started doing my own maintenance. I have no recollection of whether or not they were changed then or not but I'd like to think they were. If after trying a few things today doesn't work I may take them off (yet again) to see what...

    Won?t Start GS550T 😕

I took the advice I was given and strip the carburetors down, Put them in my ultrasonic cleaner, Installed new O. rings on the air screws as the old ones were a bit dodgy. After Reinstalling the carbs I fired the bike up and she started with no problems whatsoever, however ... the revs were...

    Won?t Start GS550T 😕

It?s spring time and time to start riding again here in British Columbia. Today I tried to start my GS 550 T but had no luck, it would start, run, but when I went to take the choke off it would die. Trying to troubleshoot this on my amateur own I figured the carbs might be dirty as it?s been...

    Blank canvas - '81 GS550T

An hour up the road ... that doesn't happen that often - good for you! My luck the item is usually in Norway or further ... Manifolds/boots have come down in price in recent years, new ones are worth the money. Happy New Year!

    Blank canvas - '81 GS550T

I've restored a few of these T's - I have a bit of a soft spot for them as it was my first bike "new" in 81. There's a 550T seat on Ebay right now for $100 plus shipping. I states it is not ripped/torn. The price is a wee bit high but they're hard to find. If the seat pan is not rusted out...

    Any tips for removing carbs?

At the risk of repeating most of the good suggestions already posted here, these are the steps I follow which have always worked for me: - Hairdryer on the boots (I am told the proper term is manifolds not boots) - un-bolt the air box to give you max wiggle room. - then use a 2" x 2" length of...

    GS650G & Me

Welcome to the Forum! Great looking bike. I have two of them - 1982. The first is a full restoration and the second is in progress and will be a bit of a custom when it is finished. In reference to your seat I've used a few of the Pit Replica seat covers and find them to be great. They're...

    650G clutch springs

I believe they came out with a 2 cylinder in 83 branded the Tempter GS650. Not sure if they continued to make the four cylinder model too in 83.

    650G clutch springs

Put new Suzuki springs in my rebuild ... haven't driven it yet so I can assess the results yet. Will likely be driving it in the coming week or two. Pretty easy procedure.

changing over original Suzuki R/R to SH775

Thanks for posting the link for the JIS impact driver bits, I am about to tear down a GS650 parts bike and they'll be just what the Doctor ordered to complete the task 🛠. Their JIS screw drivers are the best and VERY reasonably priced at about $30 CND.

    GS650G vs GS650L Exhaust Fit

Hey good luck on the move! Thanks for the info on the pipes. I can't loose on this parts bike as I'll pull the engine and all the other bits and bobs for future builds. LMD was good for the 22 years we were there but I am happy to be I in a quiter part of the province where there are great...
