A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Greetings from beautiful BC

It is encouraging to read of a long lost ride returned to a grateful first owner! I bought my first bike, a 1981 GS550T black in Burnaby at Allied Cycle and sold it in Kamloops in 1988. I would love to find it and restore it as well. No luck so far in locating it. Got back into the GS bikes a...

Looking for "soft bags" and /or backpack suggestions.

https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-65-034-010401-PL-Motorcycle-Saddle-Bags/dp/B07D9NP2BV I have two sets of these with the top bag and tank bag that my riding partner and I have used many time. I've done five day trips and had plenty of room for my stuff. They're inexpensive and have a...

    Bullet Connectors

Ok ... my mistake. It is the white green wire that is now "homeless" and not the yellow green. I was afraid I'd be bump starting my bike for life when I read Steve's reply.

    Bullet Connectors

Thanks Steve! As always your assistance is appreciated especially when it is nearly 2 AM in oHIo! Today I refurbished the wiring harness for my 82 GS650G rebuild and needed to replace a wire/bullet or two. I have replaced the original fried Stator with a new one along with a SH775 R/R. Once...

First Quesrion: is the standard size for most of the bullet connectors 4mm Second Question: where is the best place to buy them online? Eastern Beaver seemed pricy/expensive.

    1982 GS650G Nearly Finished

Thanks David, truth be known, your restoration of your GS650E (pretty sure it is an E) inspired me to bring this old girl back to life.

    1982 GS650G Nearly Finished

They came with the bike so I'd guess so. It maybe the angle of the photo or the way I have them installed. I have 2 GS550T's and they're very similar. I've not had it down from the lift since installing them so once I do I may find they're at the wrong angle.

    1982 GS650G Nearly Finished

After nearly two years of finding a bit of time here and there my restoration of a GS650G that was covered in rat poop, dirt, grease and dust is nearly complete. The frame was powdercoated, new old stock painted parts were found in Norway and the USA to give it a pretty nice new look. Only the...

    82 GS650L Idle adjustment knob...?

With a good leather glove on that is not too thick I am able to reach in and adjust it when the bike is running and the engine is warm/hot. I have had a few wrist burns when it didn't go so well ... all part of the learning curve. If it is wobbly it maybe that the nylon/plastic grommet/housing...

1980 GS550 very hard to shift

Not sure this is the problem but I know that from my experience when I was reassembling my GS550T I didn't grease this gizmo, in particular the nylon housing which made compressing the clutch lever near impossible.

    New Rider and GS owner

    Best Parts websites?

Parts Outlaw are painfully slow, 10 days to two weeks wait. Sorry, I won't be going back there to save $5 on shipping anymore. My fav is Everett Powersports for whatever they sell. I realize they don't sell all the parts I am looking for but what they do sell they sell for a good price and...

    Cylinder Head Nut's Washer ...

This is very useful and informative. I am/was not familiar with the term anneal and so ... I did a bit of interneting 101 and went to this link to learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annealing_(metallurgy) I think I would have done better in school (not that I did bad) if we would have...

    Cylinder Head Nut's Washer ...

The old copper washers were in great shape, I cleaned them off and put them back in place. Thanks again to all. I have only done a partial teardown of one of my bike engines and learned a bit from that. I think I'll keep my eyes open for one that someone is getting rid of (cheap) and will...

    Replacing the Pinion Release - GS650G 1982

Hi Charlie - you're a lifesaver posting that thread. VERY helpful. I found some time this afternoon, when to my shop (actually a garage but I like to think of it as a shop) and set out to follow your thread on how to remove the pinion. Fortunately I had a long handled file similar to the one...

    Replacing the Pinion Release - GS650G 1982

Is there much to replacing the springs? Are they a simple in/out? I can only hope! And ... I found this thread after searching for a bit on the pinion ... likely won't be an easy go at least not for me. We rack it up to a good learning experience ... I hope...
