A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Replacing the Pinion Release - GS650G 1982

Need help ... I am in the middle of restoring an 82 GS650G and I've found a NOS clutch cover which looks real nice compared to the old one that was quite beat up. I figured that buying/using this NOS cover would save me from polishing the H out of the old one to make it look presentable. It is...

Breather Screens ... or Whatever They're Called

Done ... pretty reasonable shipping so I finished off my "needs" list for this project and hit send. Thanks for the help - again. I learned something new today that the old fiches don't necessarily have "all" parts listed and to go to other listings/bikes/models' fiches to find what I am...

Breather Screens ... or Whatever They're Called

I am restoring (finally) a GS650G and was putting the valve cover on yesterday when I realized I couldn't find the mesh metal screens filter things ... (obviously I don't know the proper name for them) that sit in the small crankcase vent area atop the valve cover. I couldn't find them in the...

    Interchangeable?

I kind of figured that they were not necessary and perhaps that's why I can't seem to find a specific replacement for it. I'll likely leave it as is ... really it is $12 I don't need to spend.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Good news, the police (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) have found the bike. The suspect had cut the ignition wires and hot wired the bike. I am told he located the bike the night/morning he stole it and You Tube showed him how to both hot wire and ride it. Got to love the up and down sides of...

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Thanks! We were heading your way on the trip - next time. I am going to reach out to the MC dealers overthere. The parts lots will be the place where some of it may start showing up. As for CL I will refresh it from time to time. Thanks for your message and input.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

It looks good from the photos but I caught a ride back to the mainland so the trip is sadly over for this spring.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Close but not it. This one has been up for sale for a while. Interesting and ironic as it is not far from where mine went missing and really a black model of this one year run bike is somewhat rare. If it doesn't show up I don't know if I will hunt down another.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Nope, video from the Ford dealership across the street shows them with no helmet. Came on a pedal bike and returned 35 minutes later for the bike he arrived on. Likely sold for a bit -sad state of affairs.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

I will have my Commander in Chief (wife) look into posting on that site, she's the Facebook social media guru at home. The more you can get the message out there the more likely you will get a lead. 98% of people hate thieves and will gladly join the hunt. Thanks for your suggestion and...

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Thanks for the comments and sympathies. Compared to what bad days can look like, if this is mine, I will take it as no one was hurt and frankly the monetary value is relatively low. I did do a lot of work on this one so that sucks. I will put it on Craigslist and hopefully it shows up intact...

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

While parked overnight at the Cowichan Best Western hotel in Duncan BC my 1981 GS550T black was stolen. Neighbouring business video surveillance shows the thief driving it away. Appears they likely jammed a screwdriver in the ignition or not wired it as I had both keys in the hotel room. My...

How many GS's is too many GS's?

I have five right now: 2 x 81 GS550T in fine roadable shape, an 83 GS850G road ready and two 82 GS650G's. One GS650G I am doing a near complete restoration from the frame up and the other is currently a parts bike that I will likely restore or customize at some point. For me the wrench pulling...

    Ultrasonic cleaning carbs

I have an ultrasonic cleaner and have done about a dozen sets over the last few years. I agree with Steve's direction here but would add not to attempt to remove the butterfly/throttle plates or whatever they're called. They're a pain to remove and reinstall. You can clean them and the...

Getting the Cooley ready for another season

Wonder if you could rig a snowblower up with GS1100 engine? I would be done much quicker. Maybe a good winter project for next year.

Getting the Cooley ready for another season

Spoke too soon, we have a foot of snow and more on the way. Years ago I bought a good size snowblower and so now I am the hero of the street albeit only a few days out of the year as I clear the cul du sac for all the neighbours (Canadian spelling) 😀❄️🇨🇦 Ordered and paid paid for the brake...

Getting the Cooley ready for another season

Thanks Trevor - another for for you for GS Member of the month! I've emailed Raymond to see which is the best way to go. I am currently restoring a GS650G 82 from the frame up and want it to be right. I actually have a second (parts bike) that I'll likely restore too so if the prices is right...

Getting the Cooley ready for another season

$150 CND is a very fair price for custom made lines. And is Raymond the name of the fellow you dealt with there? I will email them and measure up my existing lines for them to replicate. I have ordered brakeines in the past from a place in T-O (Canadian short for for Toronto for our American...
