If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    My "biggest" paint job yet..

You know what was the hardest part, Pete..keeping the paint going and keeping it wet so as not to leave any dry spots from top to bottom, front to back. That's a ton of surface area. We dropped the room temperature down to about 60 degrees so it wouldn't dry so fast. The hood was a b--ch...

I believe they air bagged this baby to soften the ride a bit.

That would've been cool..but I'd have to charge them twice as much..:D

    My "biggest" paint job yet..

Maybe luxury a bit of a stretch. Really cool inside though. Stainless steel appliances..granite counter tops..beautiful wood paneling..full shower..big bed..solar panels..high back captain chair for driver..a/c..and more. Pretty nice..but luxury..maybe not.

    My "biggest" paint job yet..

Single stage acrylic enamel after sealer. The blue and white are actually an industrial equipment paint. A bit hard at first to get used to after years of spraying urethanes. Took me back to the old days of shoot and go.

Nice to see another restoration thread. You do more and more with every bike I see you do, Chuck. Great work so far. Some of the pictures (painted engine parts) don't show up on my computer, though. Not sure if anyone else is having that problem or not.

    My "biggest" paint job yet..

What the hell was I thinking when I volunteered to paint this..:-k A full-size school bus that's being transformed into a luxury RV. We painted the top white first after putting up scaffolding all around. An entire day for that alone. Matt, who works at the shop that I have had access to...

    GS1000S Rendering

I like it, too. I would paint the front fender more like the original scheme was..blue with the the white center stripe...but the rest of the body work looks good. I also like the blacked out wheels and engine. Hmm..wonder why..:D

    Gas tanks

That doesn't look too bad to me. I would take a wire wheel to those areas and maybe a small grinder to get the rust off. Afterwards Naval jelly applied to those areas will suspend any further rust if brushed on, left for a couple of hours, and then washed off.

    painting with single stage

I agree with Ed. Not sure how the acrylic enamel will work with the 2K clear. You have a bit of time (24 hours I believe) once you crack one of those cans open. I would advise doing a spray out test on a old part or something. Spray the pearl and follow it up with the clear all in one session...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I love 1960 T-Birds. My mom and dad used to have one back in the mid-60's. It was red with a white top and 2-toned red and white interior. That car was so seriously cool. I've always wanted another one but hard to find one in good condition it seems. They rust horribly along the bottom...

    GS1000N renovation/resurrection.

That is indeed a nice looking bike. Feels good to see it coming together, I'm sure. I like the exhaust a lot. Looks almost factory. Nice color choices, too. Anxious to see it with the seat.

They're just never really done are they, Pete..? Looks like some nice parts.

Drying time - Pinstripe to final clearcoat

You could always put the emblems back on and leave it the way it is. Looks more like a factory paint job with a bit of orange peel in it. It turned out nice. You should feel good about it. :)

    GS1000N renovation/resurrection.

I think you'll like the Avon Road Rider tires. I've had em on a couple of bikes and they handle really well. I keep waiting to wear out the Continental Blitz tires on my S..as cool as they looked..they have never inspired confidence. They just feel loose and wiggly. Wish I had discovered the...

    JohnnyL's 1980 GS550L Cafe Build

Those parts look real nice. Be warned, though..matte finishes look really nice..for awhile. I'm assuming it's been sprayed with a matte clear..? It's really difficult to care for..you can't wax it.

Drying time - Pinstripe to final clearcoat

Yeah..I agree 3-4 coats of clear, especially if you're going to sand and polish your parts.

Drying time - Pinstripe to final clearcoat

Your parts look real nice. Striping is sweaty palm work for sure and it does indeed take hours to do it right. You did a fine job and they should look really good after the clear coats. Put your first couple of coats on kinda light. If you spray them too wet too soon it will run right off...
