All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Pic of the week game

Voting for Burque, as so many times I had to go out into that because time demanded it. Bloody rain never goes off when it should.

    GS425 Oil Consumption. Problem?

I was using 500ml for every 300 or so miles before I did the top end, and there was not a trace of smoke. New rings and valve seals certainly fixed it, though. The reason it came apart was the base gasket leak which had become chronic. If it weren't for that, I'd have carried on using it.

18 motorcycle crashes in one day at Sturgis Rally in South Dakota

"Failed to make the turn" is a common complaint there, too. Perhaps if they rode more they'd turn more.

Batch lettering, or who made the tea that morning.

Front mudguard for 1982 GS1100G question

Looks like a GS1100E mudguard, which were plastic. Don't forget the internal steel brace. I fitted one to my 850 and for good measure put a fork brace on top - it handles lovely now.

Is there such a thing as a cheap Beemer?

A lot of the trad Beemer crowd are ageing out now.

    Valve clearance questions

Use the Zip-Tie method. The factory approved tool is a piece of crap, just waiting to damage itself or you.

It will do us good to fully stretch our lungs in order to get enough air to breathe.

Can't say I'm surprised, though. Last night I saw a vid of the smog of the 70s over parts of California. It made the Peking smog of today look tame.

A true legend has gone RIP Hulk Hogan

I couldn't help reflecting that he, a man with a lifetime of physical health and musculature, popped his clogs of a heart attack, while I of the same age and nowhere near as fit as he was, didn't.

Help Me Identify My Calipers and Pads?

Look down the top of the hole at the fork top cap. Can you see a plain screwdriver slot? If so, those are adjustable pre-sets, but they also incorporate an o-ring air seal, which will be defective, and that's what you're hearing. They're not actually air forks, but the last of the travel uses...

    Tyre Valve

Neither is a replacement for taking the tyre off and cleaning the valve seat, anyway. The first one looks good for an emergency replacement at the side of the road, and I'd have one in my toolkit for sure, if I remember to get one. The second one is more car oriented and lost all cred with me...

Does this bike have an ignition problem?

What type of timing light? I have an adjustable one, and when it's set at zero the timing appears to leap around and miss (obviously it doesn't actually, but it seems to, visually). I find that by dialling in one degree advance the light settles down and becomes stable and accurate. This is with...

    Cylinder swap, 79 GS750 to a 81 GS850?

Oh well, in that case he can use his original carb set, too. With some minor re-jetting.
