I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Nice to know. I do understand the issues with the stock unit only using two phases of the alternator with one going through the headlamp switch. That's a lot of wire resistance. I'll just heatshrink the ends of those two and tape together out of the way. I plan on cutting the opposite ends of...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Got the R/R today and it looks like this will just barely fit clearing the signal relay and just rubbing against the rear fender. Just one question. That large heatsink area in the back does not appear to have a clean connection to the frame as the RR is painted where the screw head and washer...

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

Thanks Nessism for parting with one of your SH775 R/R units. I will get it tomorrow, but I got a harness for it today. Dang this is a hefty harness. Is this for a motorcycle or a semi-truck? Already know this is gonna be fun trying to squeeze this beast in.

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

The Honda Cross reference is not correct. It is a different Shindengen part.

    GS Rectifier/Regulator replace

My R/R is bad - diodes open both directions. I was looking at the list of R/Rs on different bikes on this site. It showed the 05 Honda CBR1000RR as using the Shidegen SH775. It does have a ? next to the year though. If it is that model, the Honda part number is 31600-MEL-013 which is easier to...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

While I'm finalizing my painting plans, I decided to check out the charging system. First I checked the resistances of the regulator/rectifier and sure enough, all were an open circuit in both directions. I noticed a nice big burn mark on the red wire insulator and recall from many years ago...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Got a quote for painting. This time it doesn't include a tank and the remaining parts are prepped ( cleaned, stripped, repaired, filled, smoothed) and ready to go. I even supplied the paint and decals. I think its enough to say that I'll be doing the painting myself.

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

A little surprise after I removed my side cover. I know it was not like this when I put it on. I guess it could have snapped during riding? To top it off I see the front wheel was not removed and obviously not balanced. Has the same stick on weights I put on during static balancing and the...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Finally got the bike back from the shop after a two hour job that only took 11 days. The good news is that it starts right up, idles smooths and has all the power I need with no noticeaeble hesitation The owner of the shop said it was quick, nimble and fun to ride. This was my threshold for...

Tachometer or Speedometer needle replacement, GS400

I think I used the original circular hub instead of the one provided with the needle as it has an offset from center. had to shave the pegs down a little to make it fit and used super glue to secure. Whatever is your preference.

    Float needle and seat question.

You can get original Mikuni needle and seat pair at Niche Cycle for around $25 each. Doesn't include oring and filter cap.

Tachometer or Speedometer needle replacement, GS400

I got the needles at Amazon Needles: https://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Speedometer-Motorbike-Accessories-Kawasaki/dp/B0BVXYF8QX/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?crid=A3TIUU2LY90Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9. O9johhkk6-m4h3w6MsfWO-rs9KUfleFhseb87vLqfD74ClGmuxvuPV-s_jlWMRWqWJp_TtNJu4gFDUJtrpiOb_ggg4vaOoNaOQ61niibZ...

Tachometer or Speedometer needle replacement, GS400

I replaced my speedometer needle after trying to clean it up. Broke like a matchstick. Yes, I got a pair from China. All white, but also bought a small bottle of Tester's flourescent orange paint and carefully painted the tip. I did not repalace the tach needle and you can see the difference...

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

This is something I hadn't come across before, nor even thought there was a different way. I'll look this up. Thanks! I have a static balancer and used some weights that probably won't stay on too long. If there's one thing I don't enjoy about rebuilding is spending hours trying to find the...

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

Understood that I will need to be my own mechanic and to a pretty large extent, I have been and had my bike running well with great tips and assistance from this forum. The only things I've outsourced until now were head and cylinder work by a machinist, frame powder coating and bead blasting...

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

It idled pretty darn good. Steady as a rock after removing choke and no hesitation taking off in 1st. I don't expect much change there. I expect most of the improvement will come from adjusting the fuel mixture.

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

I think the normal schedule is every year or so many miles, but since I expect to be more or less a weekend rider, I'd probably have it on a two year schedule unless running conditions dictate. I'm ok with taking it to a shop that works on older bikes while they still exist, but understand I'll...

81 Suzuki GS650G - oil pressure light flickering on hard stop - marginal pressure?

Interesting. When I put my 650e back together, my oil pressure light would not go out. I figured since it is a single wire switch, the metal portion needed to make contact with the engine block for the lamp to go out. Sitting without use for 30 years could have deposited a thin layer of dried up...

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

Understood that there are several factors that affect sync, and it's been 30 years since I last rode, but it seemed to be smooth and responsive. I guess I should be able to see a noticeable difference when they complete the 2 hour task.

    Carburetors badly out of sync?

I don't think he was saying it took that long, but for a Wednesday appointment for 2 hours of work dragging out until next week is disappointing. They had at.least 50 bikes in there, so maybe they just put me in the que and didn't communicate it. Then weren't able to "button it up" on Saturday...
