A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    SH775 Installation for Dummies

Cool, literally and figuratively. I could nitpick about what happens in stop start traffic on hot days....... in theory :) A lot of old Brit bikes mounted it out front under the headlight. At a guess they were so inefficient they needed the best cooling available. I mounted mine 'flat to metal'...

    Reviving an 82 GS1100GK

This is what a healthy stator looks like. Measure the resistances between phases and phase to ground. Even then, a load test could reveal weakness. You can see someone used bullet connectors here and they fried. I would consider replacing the melting bullets with spade type with the help of a...

    R/r

You could do a lot worse than clean the ignition and kill switch contacts and the coil supply plugs. Almost certain that are all dirty and or corroded, especially the coil supply plugs. This got me back a whole Volt at the coils giving much better starting and stopped an annoying intermittent...

    Hard clutch pull

Check the routing. Up between 1 & 2 , forward under the coil and under the tank support rubber. At least one member here found it made a difference. You might think a ninety degree turn to get under the coil was not the way to go.

Which components to swap when going LifePo4

What I know about those batteries could be written on a postage stamp :) There is BMS and BMS. These batteries are evolving fast so I would ask the manufacturer about the capabilities of the BMS, specifically the range of acceptable inputs. Afaik they operate at a slightly higher voltage. Some...

GS550ET Tacho : NS “Stamp” on bottom

Is that a cable driven tacho and any chance of a picture?

    Front Suspension

What oil are you using? One member here swore by 5W. I use a moonshine mix of ATF and 10W40 engine oil.

    Front Suspension

How far down :) Spring out, forks fully compressed the oil level is 140mm (5.5 inch) from the top of the inner tube. Mark your rod and use it like a dipstick. I have used a metal measuring tape.

    Front Suspension

Manual says remove forks and use special tool etc etc. I do it with the springs removed, forks still on the bike, and use a measuring tape or a rod or stick with the forks fully compressed. Is it the best? Never had any issues doing it that way.

    Just bought A Beemer

Update on the R1100R. A screeching fuel pump is not necessarily a blocked filter. It could be that the last replacement, with the date and mileage scratched on the filter, included not tightening the Oetiker hose clips. The throttle cable might look okay but someone could have replaced the...

    Front Suspension

Like Grimly, mine had no air. There was a ramp type adjuster inside the top of the shock. A good starting point for preload is to have 25-30% of the suspension travel used up with the rider on the bike. The 850 has 160mm travel so that means 40-50mm of sag. Put a zip tie on the shock and sit on...

81 Suzuki GS650G - oil pressure light flickering on hard stop - marginal pressure?

I had an oil light issue with my 850 when I got it. Under engine braking or at idle if I leaned the bike over to the right, the light would come on. Never under acceleration or leaning left at idle. Turned out the clutch basket was loose and with the helical drive gears the clutch basket was...

    Post Restoration Startup

Great looking job.... hats off to you. My 850 had those colours, the best imho. I was cracking up laughing at the double triple checked everything part. You keep telling yourself that but the other part of your brain is screaming you forgot something you clown. That first start push button is...

    What Reg Rec To buy?

Is your new R/R a five or six wire type? I run a five wire SH775. Three generator inputs, red + output to harness and black - to ground. The original set up was five wire on most if not all of these machines. Six wire units can be used with wiring additions. You can revert to five no problem.

    A BIG thank you

Like you I have found this forum to be helpful. Not wanting to overstate the case but the combined efforts of a bunch of grumpy old dinosaurs, myself included, willing to give freely of their time and hard won experience, is a testament to....... something important. Did you read the terms and...

Replacement for 3 tab flasher relay on 1100G?

Me too. Got a generic flasher and ditched the controller. It's not a fix, granted, but at least it flashes reliably. Lots of things going on exiting a turn and having to manually cancel just adds to the workload. I am guilty of forgetting it. My new ride is a lot younger and it does not have...

    Won’t rev past 7000 rpm

Stator to Ground: 0 Ohms? Is that right? Did you mean infinite. I would expect the older shunt type R/R to be in the range 14 - 15.5 Volts. Meter batteries need replacing. Generally as they die they over read voltages. Has the valve timing been checked? One tooth out could produce the symptoms...

    What Reg Rec To buy?

Any chance of a picture of the old R/R or how many connections in and out does it have? The original would have had five connections. Three inputs from the generator, one supply, red, to a tee in the harness and a ground which may not be a wire but just grounding through the casing. Some...
