A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Oversize piston rings

My GS1000 had a smoke and oil burn problem. I fitted viton stem seals using the rope trick down plug hole. Seems to of done the trick, I've not had to top oil up in 1000 miles. It would have been on lowest mark before seals fitted.

Steve, the wheels are standard base model with alloy rims. Fireblade discs and Kwak calipers on my take on salty monk brackets and bandit 12 master. It works well and my gs850 has the same setup. 20201110_102722 by Dennis Harland, on Flickr received_468036703974404 by Dennis Harland, on Flickr

    From 78c to 79s clone

A few years ago I sold 4 of those emblems, black and silver also black and gold. Most I got was ?5 each, about $8 US. Always check part numbers and be wary of # # # # # -47 # # #. # 49 is usual for 1000 bikes.

    Strange discovery adjusting valves

The tag that has rubbed the throttle cable should be longer and have a plastic coating. The rubber half moon looks aftermarket, are all original mount rubbers present?. The coil lead is the outer sheath and if the lead under it is sound I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe the tank was rattling and...

    83 GS1100E swingarm on GS1000E

Blocks of wood and scissor jack as said, and a whack on the frame at foot peg hoop welds with a rubber mallet. No heat needed, that's what I did to fit mine. Obviously if the bike has been dropped on either side it could have pushed the hoop in.

    No oil pressure

When the cases were put back together, is the thick O ring on oil gallery sitting properly?. As said is the oil pump turning with engine cranking. I still think the points, both the body and spring part are permanently earthed. The screw and nut holding the spring and fibre washers. Put a different set of points on right side, even old ones and try checking again.
