All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Tire changer

I bolted mine to a half sheet of heavy plywood and it works fine. Again, movable if needed.

    Tire changer

+1 for changing my own tires. I have a HF unit and added some no-mar jaws so the rim doesn't get ruined. Also use the Mojo lever. The hardest tire to change so far was the Harley as it is a thick carcassed bias ply.

talk me out of an FZ1....

Higher mileage means more worn out. Doesn't matter what.

talk me out of an FZ1....

The 07 FZ1 had some frame cracking issues at the welds. Stay away from anything 07. The gen 2 is more like a sportbike, has better forks, alloy frame, efi, newer tech. The thing has had an 11 year run with almost zero changes. I love my 09. Lots of easy mods out there and the bike can be had...

    Balancing beads

Sand would probably work. Until it cakes or wears the tube from the inside out. I didn't mean to imply that the beads wouldn't work in the proper conditions. There are foreseeable conditions where they simply won't work as well as a properly static balanced wheel and tire assembly. Use them, I...

    Balancing beads

This has been debunked before. The wheel is attached to the bike at the hub and is restricted somewhat in movement while the bottle full of stuff is not.

    Balancing beads

Yup and the rim has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

    Balancing beads

Tubeless and weights for me. I change my own tires and balance them courtesy Harbor Freight and the Mojo Tire lever.

What's the skinny on the use of tubeless tires on a 1980 GS750E?

The thing to realize is that on the tube type rim, there is only the air pressure holding the tire against the rim flange. There is no bead retention system built into the rim. The "floor" of the rim, for lack of a better term, is not going to seal the tire from air loss as a tubeless rim can. I...

What's the skinny on the use of tubeless tires on a 1980 GS750E?

Tubeless for me for several years. They are easier to change as well.
