A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Headlight upgrade

If you are not going to go LEDs (which I did via the trucklite modification into a new bucket) Then I could recommend the SilverStar H4 -- very bright and white - slightly less life as it burns so bright - but a decent tradeoff in my opinion LED headlight <strong>

'83 GS850GL - Steering Head Bearings -- ?? How to KNOW if they need attention

Today I am on the Goldwing for my commuting - With temperatures in the low-50's this morning the Wing has better wind protection ;) But when I get home tonight I will conduct the weighted notchiness trial to see if I feel anything - But I doubt I will --- I think it may be more combination worn...

'83 GS850GL - Steering Head Bearings -- ?? How to KNOW if they need attention

Update --- This weekend I had the chance to do some investigation -- I had the front wheel off the ground by using my lift to bring the front up - I gently pushed the steering from full lock left to full lock right and back several times -- No notchiness I had the wheel facing straight...

'83 GS850GL - Steering Head Bearings -- ?? How to KNOW if they need attention

My apologies if this is in the wrong forum section- but I was unsure of where to go with this post -- As I ride I feel a certain --'looseness' -- a wiggle when going over bumps or hard around a curve - I don't know how to explain it any better than that --- At first I thought it was a tire...

Tires Conversation - (might not belong here- but hey..? ) Serious thinking here-in

I debated the placement of this post (even noted it in the title) but it isn't really ABOUT tires -- It is a discussion of the choice process - the deliberation one does to choose -- not a specific recommendation Philosophy question more than specific about a brand -- Moreover -- HOW does one...

Tires Conversation - (might not belong here- but hey..? ) Serious thinking here-in

Suppose Your ride needs new rubber - You are now faced with the challenge of picking what you are going to place on those wheels What is (are) your criteria for making a choice ? Do you just find whatever fits and buy the cheapest pair you can find? Are you brand loyal ? (and why?) Are you...

Is it possible to ride these bikes too hard...?

State of tune makes a difference in my opinion - Last summer I spent a week on my '83 GS850GL and rode 2500 miles - Much of it at highway speeds and some flogging it at higher RPMs in the twistys - Flawless with the exception of a slight bit of oil consumption (3/4 of a qt over the trip) Running...

Some experience & knowledge to share Some experience & knowledge to share So -- if anyone wants to get back to the discussion about motorcycles -- I had a 1980 GL1100 in the stable for a while - these are fun bikes -- The '80 had different gearing and was a little quicker - the later models...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

This is actually another of the minor issues and reasons I took it off.. The GL1500 has a troublesome rear drive system adn required maintenance to make it last - Every 40 to 50K was not enough -- I did it every 15K while I ran the Michelin Pilot GTs - that was a good schedule for the Goldwing

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I only did the Darkside for 30,000 miles on my old GL1500 Goldwing -\ After wearing out 2 front tires I too off the rear car tire - gave it to a fella I know -- he put another 20,000 on it. It works -- just didn't like the feeling -- for me -- Those who nay say are prevalent - those who do are...

Looking to replace front fork springs

I have used Progressive Springs in a couple of bigger bikes (Goldwings) over the years For the application they worked well I added Sonic Springs into my 850 when I re-did them about 2 years ago - And I helped another rider do a set as well BEST for these bikes in my opinion - But do yourself a...

Is it possible to ride these bikes too hard...?

I had a 1982 650 GL for 1 summer before I sold it (too small for me) It was a beast - super quick - up to redline in a hurry and when it kicked into 'super drive' it was a handful :) But I would shift out of 1st around 3500 to 4000 and then run 2nd and 3rd up to 7K - by then I was going well...

    Jetting for altitude

I have ridden a normally aspirated CV carb bike up & down every mountain in Colorado (nearly) 2 things come to mind -- 1) A sever lack of power when at altitude (specifically above 6000-7000 ft) 2) They sell 85 octane rated fuel in Colorado to accomodate the change -- could that be it ? The...
