A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Machine Shop Question

If you are going to a machine shop anyway with your head, try using their surface plate to check flatness. This is a slab of granite ground absolutely flat and is a reference tool for checking flatness. Every machine shop has one.

GSX 400f dies after 1/2 an hour ride.

Check for air leaks in the intake. my old GS1000 did exactly the same thing because of cracks in the intake boots.

    77 kz650

Rob S. said: Those bikes were very popular back in the day. I believe their ad read, "Right out of the box, it'll beat any 750 in the world." I remember those ads, back in the day. It was true too, until Suzuki released the GS750 a few months later. Kawasaki stopped running those ads then...

    battery vs concrete

It seems to be decided that this is old and outdated advice. I was told about this myself 40-45 years ago. Obviously, to make up for lost time, I should go out and remove all my batteries and set them on the (concrete) floor. .............mmmmmaybe not.

    battery vs concrete

Many years ago, I was told to never place a storage battery on a concrete floor because it will drain the battery. Has anyone else been told this? Is it true? It never made much sense to me that it would do this, but I've always refrained from doing it just in case it's true. Anyone have any...

    Total loss ignition

I understand that you want to save weight, but the 1100e engine makes so much power 5 pounds won't be noticable. If you really want to cut weight, find a way to get rid of the battery. That would be worth 25-30 pounds.

    Total loss ignition

Why? You'll find it takes longer to recharge the battery than to discharge it by riding. In other words, you'll be spending more time charging than riding.

    Deer in the headlights idea.

Deer will run in front of you or into the side of your vehicle in broad daylight. It don't seem to matter what the light level is.

Fresh Tar & Chip really grinds my gears.

The worst thing about tar and chip is the piles of gravel they invariably leave in the roadway wherever they stopped the dump truck for whatever reason. If I see that it's been done I usually try to take a different road.

    Hi from Canada...

It's important NOT to leave the petcock in PRIme position. This will cause a fuel build-up in the carbs and then in the crankcase. Not a Good Thing.

    First flat tire experience.

Why do I have The Duct Tapes running through my head when reading this thread? The only time I ever had a flat away from home, I was in Ft. Wayne IN in the evening when I ran over a nail or something and was stuck for the night. Everything was closed. Ran the '82 1100E to a service station and...

    Rear drum brake woes

Try switching the shoes front to back or top to bottom. Sometimes brakes shoes are particular about which way they go in.

82 1100E gets erratic when hot

Check for air leaks in the intake boots. Had a GS1000 that did something like that, it had cracks in the carb-to-head rubbers that only showed up after about 30 minutes of riding. Gradually lost power till it stopped, when it was cooled off again it was good to go.

GS100 runs with gas out overflow tubes.

I had that problem once, after remounting carbs. Turned out I had put the hoses on the wrong spouts of the petcock. The vacuum line was on the outflow one and the fuel line was on the vacuum one. Easy to fix.

    help, Clutch suddenly stopped working

Saw that happen one time "a few years ago". Got flagged down by a girl with a Honda Rebel 250 that wouldn't go. Started and ran OK, clutch seemed OK, took a look and the chain was off the rear sprocket. Weeeell........... I put the chain back on, it was still hanging 3 or 4 inches under where it...

1982 Suzuki GS1100G Carbs Overflowing into Airbox.

If it was me I'd be checking the coils. It could be an ignition problem.. And the plug wires and caps. (Just a guess, and worth its weight in snake oil.)

    Are these brake pads worn?

Just a hint: don't replace the pads with OEM. Get some modern pads. Suzuki brake pads from the 70s and 80s were hard to start with. When I replaced the pads on the Ratzuki, I put new model soft pads in. They won't last 50k miles like the originals, but they stop better.
