A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Those look like clevis to me. I am just wondering if the tops are too wide to fit.

    Cylinder head receiving thread stripped

I would attempt a repair with a Timesert. Similar to a helicoil but much stronger.

Big mess up on GS1000 engine install. What are my options?

I know that moment. Same feeling when I dropped a bolt down the cam chain tunnel of my CB1100F.

    Replacing valve cover gasket

If you get an OEM gasket and coat it with antisieze or wd40 prior to installation it will come off in one piece the next time and it can be reused. It also won't leak, while the silicone reusable one probably will. Just make sure that you get an OEM gasket.

    Dunlop D404's

I am running 404s after tossing the banana skin Spitfires (which must have been very old) and they are fine.

    Screw on Oil Filter Adapter

You really would be better off installing the studs while the soft aluminum of the engine case still has some threads left. They will strip and then you will need to helicoil them.

Understood. I wasn't sure of what you were after. The GS can be improved upon considerably with an 1100 model arm, or something wider, some Penskes, and the GSXR front end. If you fit wider wheels, you can run the radials and get better grip. The frame seems to be up to the task. I am keeping...

By the time you add up how much money you are gonna spend on this, you might want seriously consider a newer bike. A good used FZ1 can be had for around 5 grand and it will blow you away.

Please help! 1981 GS450L cam caps binding

My guess is that you are overtightening the caps. Check your torque wrench. The caps don't have to be very tight at all.

    Dynabeads ???

There is another Dynabeads thread around and I commented in that one. Snake oil to me. People have stories about longer tire life and that is great, but I get great mileage using static balancing.

It runs well, considering all the miles. I blacked out the cam cover. It was pretty bad.

    Dynabeads ???

How fast are we going here? The static balance method flat out works and is simpler. Why mess with it? Most tires made today are balanced out of the box anyway, just balance the rim with a tire not mounted on it and you are done. Unless you use a tube, that is.

Does one NEED to fix oil leaks?

OK, no insult intended. Just that, like the other posters, my view is to repair the oil leak and it is pretty absurd to consider not doing it.

Does one NEED to fix oil leaks?

I just saw it's a 450. He should man up and get a bigger bike, nevermind the leak.
