I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Tire Vendors ?

I have not noticed that the Shinko 712 and 230 vary much in traction, feel, or longevity. I'd perhaps give a slight edge to the 230 for traction, and I have burned through more sets of the 230 than the 712. In any case, I can attest that the 230 works just dandy in the wet. Here's my torture...

    Upper shock bolt broke!!

I've installed the shoulder bolt fix. Works fine! I have no memory of what the length measurements were, but it'll be somewhere in this page, if the link works: https://www.mcmaster.com/products/shoulder-bolts/system-of-measurement~metric/thread-size~m10/shoulder-diameter~12-mm/material~steel/...

    Tire Vendors ?

Avon has stopped making motorcycle tires. Tyres. Whatever. Any you see in inventory are leftovers. My top three rubber sources currently are as follows. All have stellar service, and pricing is generally identical or within pennies. All seem to draw from the same network of warehouses...

Just aquired 3 gs's and need advice...

Yeah, I think K&L stands for "Krap & Lame". Their carb, brake, and petcock kits are bags of random bits. The one exception is that the float bowl gaskets are OK, but you can buy those separately much cheaper. I really find this brand to be baffling because this stuff can be so dangerous, yet...

    gs850g gear indicator

Getting the "dashboard" apart is surprisingly straightforward. As noted above, it's probably just a burned-out bulb. 5th gear is the one that's on the most, so it always burns out first. Finding those damn weensy beensy ickle wickle teensy bulbs is less straightforward. They are available from...

Cruzin' Image Intake Boots - Are They Holding Up?

Okey dokey, what the hey; I've ordered up a set. $22 shipping to the US, though. That was a little ouchy. So $51.95 total. I'll report on any developments.

Cruzin' Image Intake Boots - Are They Holding Up?

Crikey, I've had my 1983 GS850G for, let's see... 26 years? Really? And I've ridden it, well, everywhere, and let's just say I have not been gentle for well over 100,000 miles. Anyway, it's running perfectly wonderfully, but I'm starting to think I should order up a set of new intake boots...

Looking to replace starter motor relay...

Yup, I've advised on and installed a few lawn mower solenoids on motorcycles. About $15 and perhaps some light improvisation for mounting and wiring. Just FYI, one common reason the solenoid on a GS doesn't work is because it's grounded to a metal plate that's rubber mounted on most models...

    Intake boots

FWIW, the o-rings always go before the boots. If the OP's boots are still relatively intact (not cracked, peeling off, shrunken, or missing chunks) perhaps replacing the o-rings would kick this can down the road a little longer. But yeah, those fleaBay boots might be worth a try, although...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

Yup, Toyota has invested heavily in research and patents, and seems confident that they can be the ones to bring about the next big advances in batteries. They are not generally a company that boasts idly, so I'd take the bare trickle of carefully phrased claims pretty seriously. They are...

As far as the value: no, you will not make money restoring and then selling any of these. Put that thought straight out of your head. You do have the potential for great enjoyment and personal satisfaction (not to mention a few months or many months of hard work, expense, and assorted...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

Yup, the grassroots racing down at the speedrome is crazy good fun. We went to a night of flat track racing down there while back, and it was a blast. Very different, and in most ways far better than the high-dollar racing over at IMS, ORP, etc. You can get up close and personal with everything...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

I've actually been to electric motorcycle races, and they are just as thrilling without the engine noise. You can still hear the sound of machinery; they're just different sounds. You get the the squeaks and squeals of the tortured tires (until electric racing, who knew that motorcycle tires...

Shims ... What's the Most Common from the Factory

Valve clearances always get narrower on these engines; over the miles, the valves wear where they contact the seat. The outer rim of a GS valve gets skinnier, and when it gets below a certain point at very high mileage, you're out of room and need to replace the valves. Shims are much harder...

Upper fork tree misaligned, adjustable, fixable?

Ah, first time for everything! I bet it's fine; just loosen the stuff mentioned and wiggle it back into alignment. Done it many times. Assuming it's all good, maybe install upgraded tapered steering stem bearings.

Upper fork tree misaligned, adjustable, fixable?

Splines? There aren't any splines locating the top triple. There's just a taper and the nut. It can rotate relative to the rest of the triple and steering stem. The machined surfaces where the forks slide in can indeed end up twisted and ruined, but that takes a fair amount of violence. If the...

    Low compression

True, the petcock rebuild kits sometimes work. At best, they're a roll of the dice (even when the old petcock's metal bits are in good shape inside), but some folks have indeed gotten lucky. And of course, some folks have opened up their old petcock only to find serious pitting, corrosion, etc...

    Gs300 fuel jets different sizes

Yeah, it's gone in and out of existence over the years. It's sitting on the free hosting associated with an ISP Cliff used many years ago, and the resources are scattered over several different scraps of free hosting Cliff found here and there. Basically, it can (and has) go away at any moment...
